Help for finding right configuration to avoid Transcoding on 2015 TV (60UF776V)

Server Version#: 1.18.8.2527
Player Version#: 4.25.1

Hi I’m a plex pass user since 2014. I always used alternative client on my LG tv because it was good to avoid transcoding.

Unfortunately it seems to be broken so I switched to official LG client but almost all my movies are transcoded and this creates issues in buffering, video quality, wife acceptance factor.

So I’m wondering if someone can help me understand why sometimes DTS are direct played and sometimes are transcoded. Why 1080p H264 sometimes is played as mkv directly and sometimes transcoded to TS (!) lowering quality, etc.

So can someone please tell what to do about it? I would avoid to buy a shield or something just to have direct play on a tv that can manages 4k content natively.

Do I have to change some setting? Or to use handbrkae or ffmpeg to modify container or so?

Please help me!

In the Plex LG app settings, do you have the appropriate audio and video codecs enabled?

Thank you for you quick support.

In plex audio setting I’ve flagged the 3 voices:

  • Dolby Digital (AC)
  • Dolby Digital Plus (EAC3)
  • DTS (DCA)

In video setting quality is set to original fior local and online. Direct streaming and directy play are both flagged. Max audio for h264 is set to 5.1 (suggested by the app).

TS is “transport stream”, it’s a container format – that’s not a transcoding. It’s just direct streaming rather than direct playing. There’s no change to the video itself.
