HELP! got an email from Plex yesterday to change p/word, did and plex server settings are now gone?

Server Version#: 1.24.4.5081 (running on Netgear NAS)
Player Version#: 8.23.1.28053 (running on Nvidia Shields, and 1 Samsung TV)

ok, so yesterday at 4:30 uk time, i get an email from plex saying i have logged from somewhere in from the USA , but i hadnt , i like in the UK (and no, i want using a VPN)!!! The Plex amail said i should ‘change my password’. So i did by logging into plex website. Then went back into the plex media server (on my NAS) and signed in with the new password, everthing was missing ?? Looked just like a fresh install of Plex media server ??

could someone explain what has happened and how i can restore (if possible) the last known working database ?

many thanks

Sadly not a NetGear user, so not much help from me regarding the location of the files on a NetGear device, but this is your issue:

If you sign-out all “clients” when resetting your password, this includes the Plex Media Server. In order to re-link it to your Plex account you need to re-claim it:

  1. open the Plex Media Server on your NAS using its local IP address (http://[PMS IP address]:32400/web)
  2. go to Settings > [Server Name] > General
  3. click the Sign In button on that page

Once you have re-linked your server to your account, you will also be able to access everything from your other apps incl. the regular hosted web app (https://app.plex.tv/desktop)

Hi thanks Tom80H,
yes i had done that bit "sign-out all “clients” when resetting the password.
On following your 3 steps, I can go no further than step 1. as i have lost all my Plex admin menu options …? (see link)

Are you on the same subnet as your NAS?

yes, i am.

i also remember some message coming up on my Nvidia Shield (using Plex client) something about claiming the NAS…? which i also did. But the problem is still with Plex Media Server on the NAS, being messed up…

Now you have me confused…
When you access your PMS on the NAS you can see your libraries / media / … but cannot access the server settings?

“Claiming the NAS” is what I’ve described above. If you cannot see the server settings, you cannot claim it (well… there’s some other means but let’s not get into those for now).

no sorry, maybe im not describing it correctly.

PMS is running on the NAS, I can login, but cannot see any of my media (NAS source has vanished) or indeed many of the Settings menu options. (as per the screenshot).

All the media is still safe and sound on the NAS , but PMS has gone mental! I can sign in, but the only PMS settings I can access, are those on the screenshot provided in earlier post. thanks

In that case it sounds like you might indeed have locked yourself out from your server. This should only happen if your server used to be linked to a different account.

In this case you should be able to follow the procedure linked by dane22. As he pointed out, the tricky part will be to identify the exact folder where the Plex server data directory is located to remove the applicable values from the config file.

followed combined info from both;

and

https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/

and got back into PMS on NAS and was able to re-claim back the NAS.

many thanks to all
