Server Version#:latest plex pass on Windows 10
Player Version#:
hi!
weather being cooler yesterday, took server offline, took comepletely apart and cleaned it out, reapplying thermal paste - the lot!
all back together and up and running but starts to freeze.
narrow it down to the dedicated SSD i use solely for the Plex Media Server.
it keeps locking out. i’ve managed to get the files outside of the PMS folder that were on there but i cannot get it to work without freezing up.
my questions are, is there any recovery from this? i.e. the PlexBackups. is there any, are they of any use, and how do i find them inside PMS to see if it can restore anything? i will happily repeatedly attempt to get them off the SSD to try them. just need some pointers in the right direction.
as a stop gap i reinstalled PMS and its on a mechanical drive. scrolling posters are slooooooow! so definitely going back onto SSD. i just need advice/answers on whether to start again or if there is anything salvageable?
thanks all!
If you cannot access the former location of the Plex data folder, then there is unfortunately nothing salvageable.
The database backups are located by default in the same folder.
Hi Otto,
I can access the folder, i can even copy files out of it, but sometimes it works, sometimes not. so willing to try/retry/try/try again to get them if it means that i can salvage it.
the backup’s - where abouts are they located and what do i do with them in the new install?
Copy the folder completely.
Then restore the latest main database backup and try your luck:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/202485658-restore-a-database-backed-up-via-scheduled-tasks/
got the folder copied. only one file wouldn’t copy over. that was the DB file dated 7/7/19.
but i can copy over all the files previous and it looks like last backup was 5/7/19.
gonna try that set.
thanks for the help Otto as always. will keep you posted.
well that bloomin’ worked!
just got to rescan/scrape all the metadata i guess.
any tips?
Shouldn’t be necessary if you copied every thing over from the old drive.
Make sure that the new drive is formatted with the NTFS file system, or you won’t be getting any posters.
but if i’ve lost everything from Plex Media Server folder except for the backup files. won’t it need to download all the posters again?
as it stands, every item is blank at the minute.
Of course, then you only have textual information and all artwork needs to get re-downloaded.
How do I initiate this as nothing is being re-postered when I scan library.
Does the item play when you select it?
Then try to Refresh Metadata.
On a few single movies first, not the whole library yet.
everything plays fine.
when i refresh a single movie. everything but the poster re-appears.
Is your Plex data drive formatted as NTFS?
assuming a Plex Dance is playing an item, jumping around in the item and then stopping the item.
no change.
deleting all the agent caches. and exiting Plex and restarting Plex.
no change.
what have i done!
Edit the movie(the pencil icon) and select posters. See if Plex has downloaded them yet. I know plex may take a long time to populate the posters if you are adding a ginormous amount of movies at once.
Check your Task Manager. Do you see gazillions of PlexScriptHost.exe?
