Help me understand shared login

Either something changed or I’m doing something wrong.

I have a server that my family uses, and we also share it with a neighbor. I added an account for him under Settings->Users->Managed User. He doesn’t have a pin or password.

When we set up is XBox One a long time ago, we got to a screen telling me to log in and to enter a pin that was shown on the device. That works fine.

But now he wants to access from his laptop (Windows 10 Plex App) and it asks for MY username/password rather than going through that pin process. I don’t want to give him my login info. I logged him in two days ago and then signed out of my user (which has a pin) and into his and that was fine… for a day. But yesterday he says its asking for the login info again.

Is that just a quirk with the Windows App? Or did the login procedure change? Or do I have him setup wrong?

Basically: How do I properly share my server with a remote user (“remote” may not be the right term - he is on the same subnet) without giving up my main account login?

Well, I suppose I could re-read that info… but I still probably won’t find out what changed (if it did) or how to get his Windows app to let him log in with a pin rather than my account.

So you’re saying “managed user” is the wrong way, and I should have him create his own account instead, and add him as a “regular Plex account”, Correct?

If so… is his “regular” status going to be able to use the Plex Pass features my account (my server) is entitled to? I assumed not, which is why I did it the way I did.

Correct.

If you, as a second step, also invite his new plex.tv account into your Plex Home, he will get the Plex Pass perks.

Thank you very much.
