Help please: Computer with plex media server died

Our computer that ran our plex media server crashed and now I need to get that server setup onto the new computer. I do not have access to the old computer, but thankfully all of the media that it played was contained on external hard drives that are in working order and plugged into the new computer.
I cannot find the steps to solve this problem anywhere. I cannot possibly be the first person to have this problem. Why does this not have an article in the help section?

I would be very grateful for any and all help.

Thank you

What is your question?

Add a library with your content…

I have all my libraries organized already on my original server. I just want that one back, but it looks like this.

If you have no access to the old computer, you can’t get the “Library” back like you had it… You would need the Database files and you can’t get those without access… So you’re stuck setting it back up from scratch using the media you had/have

Did the hard drive die, windows is unrecoverable or the pc power supply go?
Little more info on “died” please.

They told us nothing was recoverable.

Who was “they” ? Not trying to be an ass, but was this a computer professional? I had friends come to me with computers some “big box store help desk” told them wasn’t recoverable and was able to get the files they needed off of the hard drives and I’m no computer professional.

Geek Squad Best Buy.

Please tell me you have the computer and didn’t give it to them to dispose of? :palms_up_together:
The only reason I ask is if the hard drive isn’t “seized” (meaning frozen or broken drive or reader) you can use one of these to pull your information and folders from the drive.

We do have the computer. We didn’t think it seemed like they tried very hard to find our data, so we got the old one back from them when we picked up the new one. We are going to have a local computer repair business look at it further to attempt recovery. My husband has business files that he needs.

I bought one of the items I linked to a few years ago and it saved me (and a lot of friends) tons of money and time. It isn’t hard to use. You just take the hard drive out of the machine (be it a PC or Laptop) plug in the drive to the appropriate connection side and plug it in to the laptop type power brick and then plug it into a usb port on another computer. As long as the drive isn’t seized or completely corrupted you can just drag the folders off. I also like to have this on hand because I don’t like the idea of someone else having access to my files, that I don’t know personally. Good luck I hope it works out.

Thank you! I think we will look into this item and the procedure required and see if it is something we can do ourselves.
