Laptop died how do i access my Plex Server?

My laptop died the other day, just doesn’t want to boot up. No backup as i keep most of my files etc on an external HDD but apparently my plex server lives on the laptop. How do i access it or move it to another laptop? Anybody know?

Your hard drive die too? if not, take it out your old computer and stick it in some 2.0 enclosure that supports USB so you can access the server folder and replace it with the default (new) folder located on your new machine after installing Plex on it.

Since most of your data is stored on an external HDD your best best is probably just abandon the old and build a new…

Unless you have a way to access the files on the local HDD like pull HDD and mount on other system to see if you can get the data and restore your library status.

Do you know if you kept your Plex data locally or on external drive? like metadata and library info?

Worst comes to worst you build a new server and point it to your external HDD where all you content is and your watched status will be gone.

That’s an option. But say if the op had their server folder stored on the hard drive (:C:) in his broken computer? because if that’s the case, (depending on how much media info is stored in there) I would suggest the op back that up, if possible. Or if the op doesn’t care, I would go with your suggestion - Abandon and build a new, works all the same.
