Help! Plex not finding all seasons/episodes

Hi, I’ve been using Plex fine for over four years now and have never encountered this issue. I’m trying to add the animated show Metalocalypse and I have all of the seasons/episodes correctly named as I do with all of my shows. The server matches the show but only shows “Season 2” and only 3 episodes from that season. No other season or episodes will show up. I’ve tried removing it, emptying trash, rescanning to get it deleted, and then putting it back in my media server and seeing if rescanning would help but same issue.

Please help!

Server Version#: 1.13.7.5369
Player Version#: 3.67.1

Just to give an example of my renaming… only 3 out of all of the episodes are showing.

This is how I named one of the episodes that is correctly showing up in Plex:
“Metalocalypse - S02E13 - Klokblocked”

This is how another episode is named that is NOT showing up in Plex:
“Metalocalypse - S02E01 - Dethecution”

What gives, this looks like the same naming ordering and I can’t for the life of me figure out what I’m doing wrong.

  • same file types (which)?
  • how are your files organized in folders on your file system?
  • are the 3 episodes reflect only single files or do you get multiple “versions” as the result of Plex mixing up the different episodes as one?
  • any potential restrictions that could prevent Plex from seeing/accessing the files it doesn’t recognize?
  1. Seasons 1-3 are .avi and Season 4 is .mkv. The only 3 episodes showing up are all .avi from Season 2.
  2. I have it structured TV Shows - Animated > Metalocalypse > Season [X] > File
    So for example, the one that’s working “TV Shows - Animated > Metalocalypse > Season 2 > Metalocalypse - S02E13 - Klokblocked”
  3. Each of the 3 correctly listed are showing up as the single episode. They look to have listed correctly, it’s just all of the other seasons & episodes from season 2 are missing.
  4. I checked the permissions on that specific folder and it seems to have full access other than “special permissions”. But all the other folders are set up like this and I’ve never had an issue for the years I’ve been naming my media like this.

Thanks for the quick response by the way!

It’s the weirdest thing considering I have ~30TBs worth of content and this is the only show that has caused an issue for me

please try the following…
remove the files ones more from your TV Shows - Animated folder, re-scan, clear trash/caches, move the files back to their original spot and re-scan again.
wait a moment, then download the logs from settings > server > help > download logs and post the zip-file here

Are these mp4 files?
If they are, do the following before performing the Plex Dance:

Go to

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

Plex Media Server Logs_2018-09-08_14-38-47.zip (4.1 MB)

Local Media Assets was already at the bottom of all the selected agents but I went ahead and dragged it under even the agents that were left unselected

EDIT: I also just noticed if you asked if they were MP4. All of them are .avi and .mkv but I followed your steps anyways because I figured it couldn’t hurt anything

Did you perform the Plex Dance as instructed?
(all steps and in the noted order)

Have you checked that all files are valid and play in e.g. VLC?

I did perform the Plex Dance and that did not help. However, after further inspection it seems there was some sort of corruption when transferring them so that has to be the issue. Should have been the first thing I checked, just overlooked something simple. Thanks very much for the response!
