Help with buffering 4K - Sheild Pro

Server Version#:
Player Version#:

Good morning all, I’ve owned a shield pro for about a month now and it inconsistently buffers 4K content from my PC server.

I have a google WiFi system with the PC and Shield hardwired, but there is a wifi jump there between the google wifi points.

Anyhow it’s inconsistent but some 4khdr atmos-thd movies will buffer 3 or 4 times then play fine for 45 minutes, do it again etc.

Spent a lot of money on this system and I just don’t get it… I even set the video quality to auto instead of max with no relief.

I have 2 cat8 cables on order but I’m pretty sure that’s not my issue. Any advice or help with solutions or generating logs is greatly appreciated.

mind sharing some more details?
e.g. what’s the specific setup when it comes to playing that 4K HDR… media? If the server is running on your Shield Pro – do you play the media from a TV that’s connected to the Shield via HDMI or on a different device (e.g. streaming box connected to a different TV, PC, mobile…)?
You mention a PC… is that where you try to play that video?

The server and media (typically mkv) is on a windows pc. Streams direct play to the shield pro and then goes via 8k certified hdmi cable to a Yamaha 585 and then eARC to an LG oled C9.

Hi,
I have the server on the shield pro and media on external drive. 4K play fine

That’s a good idea too.

Last night I was having issues playing even a 1080 file so I tried the plex app on my tv and that was also buffering.

Did a full network reset and it was smooth sailing, so here’s hoping. I have to figure out how to log…

Are you sure its buffering? Watch your Plex dashboard when it happens, I’ve been complaining of an issue where the dashboard shows my stream as paused, not buffering. It just looks like buffering on the client

Mine flips between paused and playing. Makes it look like buffering. I’d be curious what you see

I guess I don’t know, I just get the spinning wheel. Considering it happened on both the LG and Shield app I guess I just assumed buffering.

If it keeps happening I’ll watch the dashboard if I can figure it out.

Is your LG also android tv?

I just recently bought a Mi box. Considering its also android i expect to have the same issue

I found it interesting you also saw it on a 1080p file. Imo that lends credibility to my theory as it suggests its not a bandwidth problem

Not sure about the LG, but I do find it valid to point out that a network reset instantly fixed the issue. IDK, time will tell.

Are you still seeing this?

Nope, ever since I did that network reset it’s been flawless, so I guess that was my solution for anyone with a mesh network like mine. I did upgrade all the cables to cat8 in the process but I’m pretty sure that wasn’t it as it started working pre cable upgrade.
