Help with Plex Metadata Sync on Synology NAS

Server Version#:1.40.4.8840
Player Version#:
Hi,

I’ve run into an issue with my Plex server installed on a Synology NAS. I use my server mostly for music (13k albums). I was locked out of my server, so I deleted the following lines from the preferences.xml file:

  • PlexOnlineHome
  • PlexOnlineMail
  • PlexOnlineToken
  • PlexOnlineUsername

Additionally, I deleted the Library music folders and added them again after regaining access. Now, when I access Plexamp, my music library is the one I had before my issues and it shows up with the correct metadata. However, when I access Plex on a computer, it rescanned all the music files and I lost the previous metadata edits I had made on Plex, such as adjustments to artists, albums, and tracks.

Also, if I add music to my NAS and scan it, it doesn’t show up on Plexamp. So it’s acting as if I had 2 servers with the same name.

Is there a way to revert everything to a previous state or sync the Plexamp library metadata with Plex on my computer, so I don’t have to redo all the changes manually? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!

You can try restoring a database backup that predates the changes.

See FAQ 30 - DSM 7 - Database Repair using a Backup copy.

Then rescan your libraries.

You may have problems with posters. The Internet Archive (archive.org) is offline due to DDOS attacks. Plex will not be able to retrieve posters for some media.

Thanks.

Is it normal to lose the libraries after restoring a database backup and restarting Plex?

No. The libraries that existed when the backup was taken should still be there.

I have not had that happen when loading a backup database.
