To know what Plex does for you

To use Plex with aTV3

You need a computer (or a NAS) running PlexConnect. PlexConnect has two main components, a DNS service, and a HTML translator. In order to grant that your aTV3 is always on, the DNS service must be installed on a machine that is always on. Some routers supports this, but the most widely used option is to have PlexConnect running both services, therefore the computer running PlexConnect must be always on.

You also need a PMS (Plex Media Server) installed on the same (or another machine) that runs PlexConnect. PMS manages all your media, builds nice menus, and adds metadata from the Internet (such as movie resumes, list of actors, etc). In order to explore the full power of PMS this machine must have "transcode capability". In other words, it must be powerfull enough to "translate" your movies from their existing format to the formats accepted by aTV3 (otherwise you need to convert the movies to an aTV3 supported format).
