I’ve seen variations of this post all over this forum and Reddit, but none of the solutions I’ve seen seem to work.
My 50gb+ HEVC 4k HDR files won’t direct play on the MacOS app on my 2017 13" MacBook Pro without significant stuttering, especially during scenes with a lot of action. However, the same files play seamlessly on my VLC and IINA apps. They also play fine on the Plex app on my Samsung TV. I have everything set to max/original, and my PMS is an i7-4790 with a 1060 vid card. I’ve tried enabling hardware decoding to no avail.
Also, here is a comparison of all four players on my MacBook: https://imgur.com/a/jGaEiRH. VLC and IINA are on the top, with Plex via Web Browser (on max) on the bottom left, and Plex MaxOS app on the bottom right (original). It seems obvious that the Plex browser is stripping HDR (washed out colors), but I believe it’s enabled for the other three. The Plex MacOS app seems to have the most vivid colors; I’m not sure if that’s related to the stuttering in some way.
