HEVC MKV container

Hello everyone,
I’m just wondering when or on what I’ll be able to direct play 4k/1080p HEVC with mkv container from my Plex server.
I have currently Apple TV 4 and PS4 pro.
I was able to play mp4 HEVC on Apple TV by changing xml file but I have mostly files in mkv HEVC.
The question is can I buy some box to handle it directly from my server.
If this question was already answered please link me up cause I couldn’t find it.

What type of TV do you have? I direct play 4k HVEC x265 to my LG OLED… I use a third party app called XPLAY and it just flat out works…

I found the app thanks but the question is when official app will support this I dont understand why they they support mp4 HEVC but not mkv

What do you mean? Plex should convert the files to work on these device. Neither the Apple TV4 nor the PS4 support HEVC regardless of the container, so Plex would have to transcode these videos either way.

Yes I know it transcodes.
I meant that I want to play it through the Plex app directly and I’m wondering what is the issue they are having, cause apps like infuse or VLC are able to direct play HEVC within mkv container on Apple TV.

I believe Infuse and VLC use their own player, whereas Plex adopts the ATV player.

Correct. Those other apps are using software decoding client side. The Plex app does not do that. It is not a trivial to add that either.
