"Hide items which are in collections” Library setting only works when sorted By Title?

It seems the "Hide items which are in collections” setting on a Library is only respected when viewing a Library sorted By Title?

For instance, if I sort by Release Date, Date added or Title, the Collections setting for the Library is ignored, and all items in the collection show, regardless of the "Hide items which are in collections” setting.

This seems like bug. Why would that setting only apply to one sort option of By Title?

It’s by design.
As an example… if you sort your library by release date, Plex will list all items by their release dates. If inline collections were applied, a James Bond collection with movies released across several decades will only be listed somewhere among movies from the early 1960s.

With that in mind, collections are focused on a library displaying its items by title.

Hmm. Okay. Thanks. I get the reasoning, but it’s kind of a frustrating result nonetheless.

It’d be nice if that were overridable by collection, as for some, there’s never a desire to show them all if the designation is to always have them together.

For instance a collection of short films all released in the same year as part of named set.
