I have a couple of manual Collections that I would like for the items to not display on the Library tab. I have many collections created and the Library default is set to “Hide collections but show their items”, but I have set these specific collections to “Hide items in this collection”. The items still show on the Library tab for both collections. Am I doing something wrong or is this a bug?
If your items are in multiple collections, the option to display items will always overrule another library that is configured to hide its items. There’s been a feature suggestion asking for Plex to change that priority… iirc Plex have commented they consider the current behavior to be by-design.
I apologize. I have seen those threads and meant to include here that these items are only in the one collection and not present in others.
You also stated this is about a regular collection… that’s helpful because iirc smart collections won’t hide their items.
Is layout library sorted by title?
Library by Title, Collection by Release Date.
I’m having the same experience.
I have Library default set to “Hide collections but show their items”:
Then I set one collection with “Hide items in this collection” because I don’t want it’s items to display in the Library, I want the collection to display:
But the library shows the items from the collection, not the collection itself:
The Library is sorted by title, the movies are only in a single collection and it’s not a smart collection. This happens in all of my collections when I try to use the settings in this combination.
If I reverse it, and set the Library to “Hide items but show collections” as the Library default and then go to individual Collections and set them to “Hide this collection but show its items” then I get the result I’m trying to achieve - but since I want Collections showing in my Library to be the exception and not the rule, it’s tedious to manage and feels like a bug or unintended consequence from a conflicting setting I’m not recognizing maybe. Any help would be appreciated.
Just upgraded to 1.32.5.7328 and the issue still exists. Anyone from Plex even watching this space?
Version 1.32.5.7349 still has the same issue. Any idea of when this might be addressed?
I am experiencing the same exact issue.
I think there is some maybe race condition where it cannot hide collection but show individual ones but I have made a bug report to be looked into.

Collections have had some unexpected behavior sometimes, particularly with Smart collections in the mix, and it always gets resolved eventually so I appreciate the attention.
The workaround works fine to get the same results though so it’s just an extra step when setting up a new collection; Set the Library default to “Hide Items which are in collections” and set collections to “Hide this collection but show it’s Items” has the same effect as setting Library default to “Hide Collections but show their Items”.
Any word on this from Plex?
