High bitrate (4K/HDR) content video render freezes every 10-15 minutes, while audio keeps playing

Essentially a repost of High bitrate (4K/HDR) content video render freezes every 10-15 minutes, while audio keeps playing as its never been fixed and I’m still running into this issue. Really sucks Plex just closes threads automatically, even though bugs are not fixed

Server Version#: 1.42.2
Player Version#: 5.90.1

TV Model: OLED55C16LA
WebOS Version#: 6.0.1-4529

Hi,

Ever since early 2023 I have not been able to properly use plex, any content that has anything but a bitrate higher then roughly 15Mbps will have the issue with the video render freezing while the rest of the content keeps playing.
The higher the bitrate, the more often this interruptions are (ranging from twice during a full movie, to every 10-15 minutes).

To make it worse, you can’t fix it by just quickly going in and out of the movie, only after waiting ~45 seconds you can press play again. Pressing play any earlier results in the video renderer staying black while the content keeps on playing.

The overlay and menus work fine while this is happening, the TV’s display itself is not frozen.

Considering this issue seems to have appeared around the same time as when PGS subtitles can cause the app to run out of memory, I wonder if this is also memory management related. Especially the wait time feels like this is me just waiting for the renderer to get shutdown / freed from memory

Would really love to see this fixed

Monitor playback via Plex Dashboard → Now Playing + Expanded View.

Is the audio transcoding?

With the Plex LG app, if the media is direct streaming, such as when audio is transcoding, enabling any type of subtitle results in a video transcode & subtitle burning.

If your server cannot perform the task in real time, then you will experience periodic buffering, as the Plex client must wait on the server to catch up.

It’s fully through direct play, nothing is being transcoded and it’s not a networking issue.

The renderer inside Plex just stops decoding the video. The audio and subtitle rendering will continue.

Waiting and restarting the playback (by going out of the video, and back into it) will eventually restore functionality. The amount of time it takes before video decoding breaks is proportional to the bitrate of the video stream

Custom software like Xplay does not experience this issue, but does have other problems specific to the app. This is outside the scope of my issue though, but it does show the issue lays within the plex app for WebOS, and not my server hardware
