Player Version#:3.13.29 Plex for LG
So I’ve had this issue for a while now.
The Plex app on my 2014 LG TV has a weird problem playing media when it’s set to direct stream - mostly 1080p with DTS files but has happened on a couple of videos that have DD audio.
The issue is when playing videos, as soon as music starts, the whole stream begins to freeze every 10 seconds or so. I have to then lower the quality of the stream to make it stable which obviously forces encoding on the server.
Bandwidth on the local network is fine, the TV is connected to my router via ethernet and I’m not seeing any buffer messages appear, the videos just keep freezing.
Audio is set to pass through to my sound bar which should handle the encoding so I’m not quite sure that would be the problem.
I have a feeling it might be my TV as it’s quite old now and the app may no longer be supported, I remember I had to buy the Plex app.
Also if I connect to my pc video library and play the same videos via the TV gui the play just fine. Any ideas?

The LG Web app for WebOS 1.4 has reached end of life. If your TV is still working ok and you wish to garner a few more years use. A box like a Roku or Nvidia Shield would be suitable.
I had a 2014 LG and some files were troublesome, unfortunately for me it went on the fritz. So Now I have a shinny new LG OLED, which I find awesome.

I also have a PS4 Pro connected to the same TV, although I don’t have the exact same issue, some files automatically play speeded up like x5 the normal rate and can’t be stopped. I really don’t want to go spending more money if I’m going to potentially have other issues on supported devices. The files obviously play fine the pc that’s used as the PMS and also on devices where encoding is forced.
Already posted some time ago in another thread about this but it is locked now. There is an issue of bandwidth with the Plex App on LG Netcast. Well at least on my TV. For some odd reason, the bandwidth on the Plex App is being limited to around 15Mbit/s (checking outgoing upload speed from the server) and that’s a problem. It causes constant buffering or freezes if media exceeds that bitrate speed and even if it’s a bit lower. There is no problem playing the same media file using the LG’s DLNA client (Smartshare). It exceeds the 15Mbit/s bandwidth whenever it is required.
The thing is I can’t use the LG Smartshare for everything. Need Plex to transcode especially for anime.
Today, surprisingly I was notified of an update for the app. It is now updated to 3.13.29 but unfortunately the issue still persists.
