7.2.2 is the Nvidia shield software. I have the plex beta auto-update.
Ah ok. How high a bitrate are we talking? I have some 50-100 Mbps samples that I use for testing and haven’t noticed an issue. Can you provide the XML for your video that causes this?
It seems to be anything above a high bitrate like 30Mb…
It’s for every single video (that’s high bitrate) so I don’t think an xml won’t help. It’s easily reproducible.
Try and test it for any 30Mb file on a remote server.
Basically goes back to this post… There is some sort of latency/buffer check that seems to get triggered…
Just tested using the popular 40Mbps and 100Mbps jellyfish samples. They buffered since my connection isn’t fast enough, but they did load and play.
Please recreate and send me the log from PMS and the client so I can check which end the problem might be from.

Based on your description of the issue you provided, it’s not the same issue danjames92 is describing. For you, since it appear to occur at the same spot within a file, my guess is that there is a spike in the bitrate which may be too high for the Shield to handle. For example, if you have a file that is listed as having a bitrate of 50 Mbps, depending on how the file was created, there could be spikes 10x (or even more) that bitrate. So if you have a spike of 500Mbps for 1 second, that’s 60MB worth of data for 1 second of video. That might be too much for the Shield to handle.
The issue the OP is seeing could be related if the spike is occurring at the beginning of the file.
If this is the case, I’m not sure what we can do to fix this. The playback stack memory is only so large. I’m still checking your log to see if there is some other issue.
The SHIELD can playback uncompressed 4K from a remote server, it can handle the bitrate. This is likely a SHIELD firmware issue as it was not happening prior to 7.2.2.
So is your issue with high bitrate (30+ Mbps) hevc files?

No I was just stating that the SHIELD has zero problems managing files with extremely high bitrate like Remux 4K’s.
So what type of files are you having issues with? Why I asked for the XML.

The nvidia moderator states that Plex devs are aware of the issues (see thread below) and that they are not related to their firmware and the problem lies with Plex. Maybe @sixones could provide an update to if they have found where the issue lies.

Every single file of a moderate bitrate i.e. above 20Mb.
I am not personally aware of the discussion between Nvidia and Plex so I don’t know what is known or not. However, that response in that thread sounded to me like an issue we were having related to where PMS is storing the appdata. I know there are issues around that. I’m not aware of anything specific related to this high bitrate issue. As I said, I was able to play a 40 and 100 Mbps stream fine.
The difference I see is that you are using DTS-HD-MA audio. I know we don’t support that, so it could be something with PMS trying to transcode the audio, or if you have passthrough enabled, it can only pass the DTS core, so maybe something going on there.
Can you recreate and send me your PMS and Shield logs?
I get that you’re trying to help but every time I see you post something there’s always at least one error in it.

This is factually incorrect. SHIELD TV has always supported DTS-HD MA (ignoroing pre 1.5 ExoPlayer beta days) and PMS has always been able to send it. SHIELD TV even supports weirder esoteric formats like DTS-HD HRA. I’ve had passthrough on since day 1.
Luckily my problem seems to have been resolved with the update to the beta PMS which is strange as heck but I’m not complaining! 
Ah darn it. I’m thinking of optical. Yeah, dts-hd-ma and others are supported via hdmi.
Yay. Not sure what changed. There’s nothing around how audio is handled. I wonder if you had a bad previous update.
I can’t be a Shield firmware problem, since the same Shield can play literally anything with Kodi or other software. The Plex issue is also “solved” by simply uninstalling all Plex client updates (so you’re operating on the oldest version) and it plays fine. It’s a Plex client app issue.
