Hey all,
I been advised that 4k playback through the plex app can not be done due to the limitations of the app being HTML5 based.
Is this true? if so, how does the Netflix app play 4k hdr content if there is a limitation ?
Can anyone shed some light on this please. as i purely bought the tv for to use the smart apps within. I do not want to have additional components to play content.
Thank you
Because it does proper encoding for target clients – because of the way Netflix sends the streams, it doesn’t have the limitation that comes with HTML5.
From other posts (here and here) it seems you’re out of luck.
You could pull log files and compare to those in the other posts. If you see the same messages, such as video.width limitation applies: 3840 > 1920, then you’ll at least know what is happening.
But i just want a plex staff to inform me if the app can be updated to work at 4k. or it simply cant be done.
no point buying a brand new smart tv to future proof to then fine out it cant even play 4k
On the official support page for Smart TVs, Hisense isn’t listed so I wouldn’t hold my breath. Add that to the fact that Plex rarely (if ever) publicly posts roadmaps / ETAs…
The server is local. It’s annoying how the plex app is in the TVs apps but yet isn’t a supported app. It’s all misleading as I would have bought another brand tv
