I know its been mentioned on a couple of occasions but a basic upgrade to a recent version of Plex for Hisense would be good.
I’m running a 4k Hisense TV on Vidaa currently. It will play virtually any media file including h265 mkv’s natively with ease. If you try and play them through the plex app though its constantly trying to transcode because the app settings won’t let you configure it properly because its so old.
I agree, the Plex app on Hisense needs to be updated to the new UNO version on the Roku. The current Hisense app is not only completely unacceptable it’s an absolute joke!
Totally agree. I spent ages confirming that my new Hisense TV would have Plex, only to discover that it’s Opera/web-based and is unable to play almost anything without transcoding.
A 4K TV that has a Plex client that can only play up to 720p without transcoding is ridiculous. I’m now messing around with (undocumented) Plex profile files in the hope that I can improve the situation without having to buy separate hardware to run Plex.
It would be more honest of them to at least brand the Opera client as Plex Web or something, so it’s clear what the difference is before people purchase a TV.
Honestly, I have given up on Hisense. I don’t believe thats its plex, I think hisense software support is absolutely rock bottom. All my TVs are hisense and I now use them as dumb monitor output only. Their VIDAAU or whatever is possibly the worst TV software I have ever used. The best advice I can give for a hisense owner is turn it to HDMI input (dumb monitor mode) and connect an Google certified Android TV box. I use the Mi Box and i have never looked back. The UI experience, the plex experience, the apps. Honestly its just great.
Just had a look at the new free movies/tv content added to plex and - no surprise - i can’t watch it on my tv because the hisense app is so out of date. and it won’t cast from the phone either.
i don’t want to watch tv on a 6 inch screen. hurry up and update the hisense app guys.
Hisense is not even listed in the “no longer supported” section. Clearly it was supported at some stage, I just bought a new Hisense TV and it has Plex pre-installed.
V3.13.13 was installed, it works, but is pretty dated in the UI. Is there a later version available?
That is probably the old ‘Opera’ app store app. Sony bought them and then closed them down after ~ a year. There are no new app version for this platform.
I also recently bought a Hisense 65R8 and its an awesome tv. I have a MiBox S as well. But with the tv supporting Dolby vision and mibox not i use netflix on the tv and not mibox and plex… well the ui on the tv sucks. Its ugly, slow en anniying. So using the mibox but would prefer directly on the tv. Is there no way to just port the android version to the tv?
