I have a Hisense 85U8N, along with the Samsung Q990D soundbar system.
Everything I play on Plex is Direct Play, there is NO transcoding on the server.
I’ve noticed every time I watch a 4K movie, Plex will start stuttering around the 1:15 to 1:25 minute mark. Every single 4K movie that I watch, no exceptions.
At first I tried pausing then restarting, still stuttered. Then I tried stopping, going back out to the main Plex menu, go back in, still stutters.
Finally the only way around this in order for me to watch the rest of the movie is to RESTART my Hisense TV.
This suggests to me at some point the buffer memory allocated for the Plex player has run out.
I know for sure the TV has plenty of space for buffering, so it’s not a space issue on the TV.
Again EVERYTHING is DIRECT PLAY, so there is NOTHING being transcoded on the server, so it’s not the server.
It cannot be the network, because the movie plays fine for at least the first hour.
I should mention prior to this TV I had a Toshiba Fire TV, and streaming 4K movies always worked fine from beginning to end, even if some movies had the audio transcoded.
So, this leads me to believe there is something going on with the Plex Player for Android TV OS.
I’ve checked everywhere, could not find if there’s a setting to adjust or increase the cache or buffer size.
The Enable I/O Cache setting is ON.
Any suggestions?
Will Plex support please look into this, perhaps updating the client to allow adjustment of cache/buffer size, or dynamically delete older cache in real time?
It’s very frustrating not being able to enjoy a good high quality movie on a good TV with good sound. Not a good experience.
Thanks for reading, thanks for all the support.
