Hit Cpu usage during streaming

I set up the HDHomeRun and Plex find it easily, I can see my channels on the plex and can to stream live channels but the problem is CPU usage!!! My tv and plex server are in the same local network also plex is in the windows 7 width 8G ram and 4 core intel 2.9Ghz. But during the just one streaming the CPU goes to 100% and the second player is trying to buffer. Every configuration is the default.

Please tips me what should do to fix the problem.
I have a plan to buy Dell server with 2 xeon CPU and 32G ram but I don’t know is it work for 30 live streams at the same times

Server Version#: latest version
Player Version#: Samsung smart TV 6
Tuner Make/Model: HDHomeRun 4 Tuner
Guide/Lineup name:
Using XMLTV?:
Channel number/Name:

It really depends on if your client can direct play/stream the content. I have similar setup and my tv can’t direct play most channels so the server needs to transcode which takes CPU, you can try to hardware transcode which will help but you really want your clients to be able to direct play without transcoding.

Thank you for reply nokdim, but how can I find about the player streaming mode?
I test with mobile iOS and smart Samsung tv. Both of them when start to stream one if the live channels the CPU goes to 100%

I would recommend either using a Android TV or an Apple TV. And then go under the Plex application and then settings and set the remote and local stream video quality to Max. That will fix your issue:)

Your phone might be able to do it as long as you’re on a strong Wi-Fi signal. Your Samsung TV might have issues with that setting set to Max.

When you play an item look at the dashboard on the web it will show you why it’s transcoding.

My Samsung usually transcodes due to lack of support for audio codecs.

Or if you bring up the info screen on the Samsung it will tell you if it can direct play audio or video.

Also there is a native HDHR player built into the Samsung TVs which seems to be much better at playing back streams from the HDHR but doesn’t have a guide. So if the HDHR is local like you say it is the tuner should show up as a source on your TV.

Please name the actual CPU type (usually a number).

Do also post the Plex XML info of such a DVR recording.

The type of Plex client which is used plays also an important role when it comes to CPU load of the server. So please state this as well.

Server Hp Proliant dl160 g6
2 Xeon x5650 CPU
48G ram

All client Smart Samsung TV in the same local network and connected with ethernet cable

Isn’t that the cpu in the computer you are going to get?
What is in your currently used computer?
Because these xeon models are now over 10(!) years old. Their combined computing power can now be superseded by a single desktop cpu, which might have the added advantage of a video hardware transcoder unit.
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Xeon+X5650+%40+2.67GHz&id=1304&cpuCount=2

What kind of Samsung TV is it? (model year)

I’d still need at least the type of video stream (codec type) in one of your DVR recordings.

The seller said Xeon x5650 2.67Ghz with 6 core
Also, I have another question about Tuners. My HDHomeRun already has 4 Tuner that I need to stream live Tv for 25 clients at the same time which maybe they want to watch different channels. As I realized with 4 Tuners just clients can watch 4 different channels at the same time. Is it correct? If yes, what should I do maybe 25 clients wants to watch more than 4 channels at the same time while HDHomeRun detect 73 local channels that shows in the Plex media server

Correct.

Add more HDHomerun devices and pray that your server can handle the load, because most Plex client types will force the Plex server to transcode the MPEG2 video to H.264. Which is why you rather want to use an up-to-date Intel desktop CPU with QuickSync unit, so this transcoding can be hardware accelerated. The 10 year old server CPU will probably be overtaxed with this.

Actually, transcoding will be disable on this server, and the client just make direct connection via ethernet cable. But about TV tuner, it’s doesn’t make sense to put 20 HDHomeRun to cover 73 live channels. What is the professional solution for live streaming with 25 client that they support Mpeg2

This calculation is not correct.

You need as many tuners as you have client devices (plus some reserve for recordings if wanted).
So if you have all 25 clients watching concurrently, (in the worst case, if each one is watching a different station) you need 25 tuners.
HDHR devices come with 2, 4 or even 6 tuners each. So, if for example you go with 4-tuner devices, you need 25/4 = 7 HDHR devices.
