Is there a way to stop plex from reading the file metadata and using it as the movie name ? I am looking for a way for plex to use the file name in stead, whilst using the rest of the meta data for evetything else.
I know I can manually edit - but I am looking for a global setting.
Make sure you are adding your files to a library of the type ‘Other Videos’.
You can verify by editing your library,
go to the ‘Advanced’ tab
and look at the ‘Agent’ dropdown selector.
It must be set to ‘Personal Video’
Once you have done that, go to
Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Personal Media
In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Note that this change will only affect newly added videos. All the existing items in your library will remain as they are.
If the above doesn’t change things even for newly added items, then I’m afraid there is only the way of changing the embedded metadata of your files before you add them to Plex. mp3tag for instance will allow you to read the file name and put it into the ‘Title’ meta tag – for many files at once.
