At this time I’m not really interested in remote access, so both the servers are running on their own internal IP address assigned by my comcast router.
I have a home network.
I have my primary Plex server with a TV tuner set up and all my media access via this server. I want to be able to access all my media and watch TV from this server on the various TV’s in the house using Roku. With one Plex server this works fine but I discovered after setting up a tuner on the primary server I can’t record tv while streaming an episode I already had recorded, maybe too much CPU power required for what it was trying to do, it froze my streaming tv show.
So I set up another Plex server on another PC with a Hauppauge Quad tuner so I can record content on my secondary Plex server and watch TV from the primary plex server so I don’t overload my “watching” primary server.
The problem I seem to be having is accessing the quad tuner secondary plex server on the PC it’s installed on to schedule recordings, I can’t seem to access the “home” of the secondary server, it sees the primary server.
My secondary plex server should have an empty library because there has been nothing created for it to access except for the DVR/Live TV. But all the secondary server shows is what it sees on the primary server.
Web address is local IP:32400 for each server, but the secondary server still shows content from primary server.
Confusing, but what can I do to rectify this?
OR, is it just an optical illusion that scheduling a recording on the secondary server shows up as a scheduled recording on the primary server?
If you have more than one Plex server, you should see the EPG (program guide) of both servers in each of your clients.
I checked on my cr***y Roku Express and I can see the recording schedule of both servers separately.
I noticed the following though:
after pinning the “Live TV” source to the left sidebar,
I had to add the program guide of both servers manually. (go to the ellipsis ⋮ top, right and “Manage EPG sources”)
After doing that, the screen didn’t work at first.
I had to exit the Plex app on the Roku, then re-enter it. Doing so made the Live TV screen operable.
I actually had to shutdown the primary server so I could make the secondary server display “home”. This allowed me to see I had no libraries installed on this server other than the Live TV, tuner/dvr. This is what I expected.
Then I restarted the primary server and now I see on the left side my Primary server with all my media libraries and Live TV/tuner/DVR and below that is my secondary server with just the Live TV/DVR and the"Library" for storing my recordings on that server.
So as of now I can see everything from either PC. Not exactly sure why I was unable to see both servers at the same time, never tried 2 servers on my local network before so I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to see till I knew what I wanted to see and it wasn’t visible.
AOK for now.
On my TVs now each item on the left side has the server name under it so I can tell when I select a library or feature, which server is being used
