Home users accessing admin account

I’m not sure if this is a server issue, a client issue or what so I didn’t know which section to post in.

My server is on a NAS. I have a Plex Pass and have 4 Home Users set up (two adults with pin codes, two children without pin codes).

For the last few months, every time the children watch something the content is marked as watched under the admin account. They can only see the content shared with them (otherwise I’d have raised this issue earlier) but the On Deck selection and so forth matches properly based on the watched content from before this issue occurred. Everything else shows up on the admin account.

This doesn’t seem to happen when I log in via plex.tv, only via local connection. It occurs no matter what device is used. It also only seems to be happening to those accounts without pin codes. It also doesn’t seem to be affecting remote users with their own Plex accounts.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how to fix this rather annoying problem, besides making my children set up pin codes (which isn’t feasible for at least one of them)?

Is setting each of the kids up with their own accounts and sharing to them feasible?

Do you have DLNA activated?

Do you have something in the input field
Settings -Server-Network-(Show Advanced)-
“List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth”?

Are you using the old trakt.tv plugin?

They would lose their played history and have to remember a more complicated password then, wouldn’t they? I’m also not sure if it would mean they kept access to my Plex Pass features.

I guess that might make sense for one of them, but I’m not seeing a lot of advantage over setting a 4 digit PIN for now.

Huh. You know what? I do. I don’t remember putting that in there. I’ve looked at it as an option before in case of my internet access going down, but I didn’t think I’d actually used it as… I’d heard it breaks Home Users. :wink:

Then clear that out.
(Or replace the network address in there it with one or two single IP’s of your personal Plex client devices which should continue to work in the case of an internet outage.)

Don’t forget to stop and restart the server afterwards.
