House of Cards (UK)

Hi,

I cannot get the files to show up on my Plex server. I have tried renaming the directory with the year, encoding the files into a different format. I don’t know what else to try. The files will not show up. All the other files in my TV share are found automatically.

Thanks in advance!

I seem to have asked this question twice by accident but can’t find how to delete the duplicate.

I have them named as ‘The House of Cards Trilogy SxxExx’.

Can’t remember if I had to manually match them.

Do you happen to have “House of Cards (US)” as well?
Look in there if the episodes were inserted as duplicates.

Tell your file names and your folder organisation.

Are your files in mp4 / m4v containers?

Apparently House of Cards (UK) has recently changed to:
http://thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=79861&lid=7
House of Cards
or
The Final Cut <— I have no idea what that’s about.

A TV Show Library/
…House of Cards/
…Season 01/
…House of Cards - S01E01.xxx

The ‘Other’ House of Cards would be
House of Cards (US)
or
House of Cards (2013)

I discovered this new thing by typing house of cards in the search bar at TVDB then hitting ‘enter’ - it then lists everything they have on House of Cards and any alternate names.

I actually have both US and UK version in the same folder. US is called ‘House of Cards SxxExx’.

The UK version is made of 3 seasons. Generally it’s known as The House of Cards but officially this was the name of the first season only. The second was To Play the King and the 3rd The Final Cut.

don’t put episodes in the same folder.

you should have a main TV folder then a separate folder for each show.

TV/House of Cards (2013) or (US)
TV/House of Cards (1990) ( adding the year found on the main show page on tvdb can sometimes help help )

If you just put in “House of Cards” by itself it will likely pick the newer one because percentage wise more people get that one.

Putting all of the episodes in one folder will also surely combine them all into one show. it will likely think you have multiple copies of some episodes. if they are in separate folders and they get combined into one show you can “split apart” them then do a fix incorrect match on whichever needs it. You can’t do this to fix it if all eps are in one folder

I understand, but TVDB just overhauled everything.

If you type:
house of cards
into the search bar at TVDB and press enter you’ll see everything in the database regarding House of Cards. Plex/TVDB is going through months of misbehaved actions dealing with TV Shows that have different versions - like House of Cards. Perhaps this is the fix.

Recently (last weekend) I Refreshed every library in my Plexiverse. I did have to ‘correct’ a few TV Show names. Perhaps this is ‘the new way’.

Regardless - it’s always a good idea to visit TVDB, find the name they use and use that name - or FileBot will do it for you. FileBot would use the name from TVDB to the letter and in this case, for the UK Version it would be:

A TV Show Library/
…House of Cards/
…Season 01/
…House of Cards - S01E01.xxx

absolutely :+1:

I’ve been experimenting and this whole thing is still buggy.

A TV Show Library/
…House of Cards/
…Season 01/
…House of Cards - S01E01.xxx

Produces the Netflix version as does:
House of Cards (US)
House of Cards (2013)

A TV Show Library/
…House of Cards (1990)/
…Season 01/
…House of Cards (1990) - S01E01.xxx

Produces The UK Version as does:
House of Cards (UK)

It is producing the Netflix version because more people when it is matched to it leave it that way. there for it has more hit % and is selected. If many people started doing fix incorrect matches on it and selecting the UK one for that naming sooner or later the UK one would have a higher percentage and be chosen by default in the future.

that’s why i was mentioning to put the year in. it tends to end any confusion for the agents

Hold on. So our matches are being influenced by other, perhaps less pedantic, users of Plex? Including every user who installs it, adds a library or two and then ditches it? I guess the answer is ‘yes’ and if I asked how long that had been a factor for I guess the answer would be ‘a long while now’ as well.

Is there a thread or wiki page anywhere that explains the matching logic in detail?

I’ve long laboured under the assumption that if I labelled everything precisely including years and regional suffixes like the naming guide says to, my results would be my results. And perhaps that’s why I generally tend to get accurate results. Seems like though, if I had the option, I would opt-out of including herd-popularity in matching my own data - I can imagine some of the other OCD users would as well.

it’s been like that pretty much since the beginning.

not sure what the problem is though. if you are properly naming them with all the info available as you seem to be then you should be fine. the issue arises generally when folks do not include all the data and with data available if here are two choices then the more common one will be chosen. I mean it’s not like there are thousands of folks intentionally picking the same incorrect movie or tv show just to be difficult. especially not some completely unrelated thing. the fact of the matter is that many people do not name things exactly like we suggest and the agents sometimes need to make a educated guess on why result the user might mean. It only takes a few moments to do a Fix Incorrect Match if necessary.

The really neat part of Plex’s New and Improved Undocumented TV Show Matching Nightmare is that not even FileBot can help in some cases, but don’t worry folks - it only takes a few moments to Fix Incorrect Match.

For YEARS the volunteer support staff has suggested that when in doubt use FileBot or go to TVDB and get the name they use - after all TVDB is THE TV Show Database so if you match their naming it has to be right, right?

Not Really.

The Flash circa 1990: The Flash - TheTVDB.com - Look carefully and use the name found at TVDB so there will be no mistakes.

A TV Show Library/
…The Flash/ <---- the 1990 Flash as it appears at TVDB - and the name FileBot GOES TO TVDB AND GETS!
…Season 01/
…The Flash - S01E01 - Pilot.xxx
(perfect name, perfect structure, as per Plex’s official documentation backed up by YEARS of successful implementation and/or made right the first time by using FileBot so there will be no guesswork)

Result:

Whooops! - well, it only takes a few moments to Fix Incorrect Match.

Taboo circa 2003 The Documentary Series: Taboo - TheTVDB.com - Look carefully and/or use FileBot to do it for you so there will be no mistakes.

A TV Show Library/
…Taboo/
…Season 01/
…Taboo - S01E01 - Food.xxx

Result:

Whoops! Hey now, it only takes a few moments to Fix Incorrect Match.

Exhaustive ‘Research’ was done:
https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/254362/tv-series-name-matching-research

The two examples above are the first two posts in this ‘Research’ thread, but what? It’s easier for users to Fix Incorrect Match than it is for Plex to fix whatever they developed? I guess so.

Has anyone at Plex HQ noticed that TV Show Matching has gone completely 'round the bend? TV Show matching problems infest the forums and Plex’s volunteer support staff can’t develop work-arounds fast enough to match the need for work-arounds shipped out of Plex HQ.

But don’t worry folks - it only takes a few moments to Fix Incorrect Match or through trial and error and enough of The Plex Dance® anything can be made right.

I would suggest Plex update their documentation:
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220687-Naming-Series-Season-Based-TV-Shows
I’m not really sure Plex even knows what should be written there other than:
‘It only takes a few moments to Fix Incorrect Match’.

Welcome to the future! It’s way better than the past.
