How can I access my plex server through the app when internet is down at home?

my internet is down at home. My home network is up and i can connect to all my servers and storage but its like I can’t tell Plex to use my local server instead of accessing remotely so that I can consume my media.

Has anyone else ever ran into this?

If Plex is unable to find a server automatically, say your internet is down, you should be able to go into the app setting and set up Manual connections where you tell the app exactly where your server is located on the local network.

Well I was without internet for almost 12 hours and Plex worked perfectly the whole time.

There are a few parts of Plex that seem to require internet and those will prevent usage of Plex when the internet is down.

  1. Plex Home - I just do not see any real advantage for me so I do not use it
  2. Secure connections - I have them disabled on my servers and clients and, since I allow no remote access to my servers it is not a problem.
  3. Web access via app.plex.tv/web/app but AddressOfPlexServer:32400/web/ works fine.

Also any feature that requires verification of a Plex Pass may not work.

I have never had any trouble with any of my clients during an internet outage.

I believe a great deal of the TV based clients require online authentication before they will work right.
