I only share my PMS with my family who are not far from me and I’ve asked them to do a bandwidth test which seems more than sufficient to stream my 1080p HD content from my server. I’m not sure if there’s a setting on my PMS that is degrading the quality of my streams to their remote player (XBOX1) but everything I can see them play gets transcoded from 1080p to SD for some reason. I don’t think their Internet quality is to blame but I’m not sure what on my PMS to change to verify that all streams are played in original quality. I don’t really understand transcoding to be honest but I’m trying to force my server to push streams at full quality only…

Here are my (relevant) PMS settings:
[Remote Access]
- Allow remote access = enabled
- Limit remote stream bitrate = Unlimited (original)
- No upload limit set
[Transcoder]
- Transcoder quality = make my CPU hurt
- Transcoder temporary directory = /tmp
- Transcoder default throttle buffer = 60
- Background transcoding x264 preset = Very Slow
- Use hardware acceleration when available = enabled
- Use hardware-accelerated video encoding = enabled
- Maximum simultaneous video transcode = unlimited
Can someone let me know what I can change or can do to better the remote experience to my family? The only device between my PMS and the open Internet is a Pi-hole running on a raspberry pi. Not sure if that’s at all relevant but figured I’d mention it. I can disable the pi-hole if need be but I don’t see any immediate improvement from either end.
