Have Synology DS418PLAY setup for a client and the latest beta software 1.11.3.4803 does not allow for the HW transcoder to run. I have the same setup running 1.11.1.4768 and it works fine.
How can I get a copy of 1.11.1.4768 that I used a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately I deleted that download.
It did for me (however so does the current release, so I’m not sure if you’ll see issues with this one too). I typically leave mine off because while it works for h264 -> h264 it makes watching MPEG2 impossible.
If you update DSM at any point, you will need to do a quick uninstall/reinstall of PMS.
It can’t be avoided at this point. Synology is infamous for erasing all the permission settings I install when PMS is installed.
It can only be restored during installation because that’s the only time I have access as the ‘root’ (privileged) user in the unit. At all other times, PMS runs as user plex which has no such privilege .
When permission is again granted, and it’s signed in to a valid Plex Pass account, it will have HW transcoding if the unit is capable.
@ChuckPA thanks, yeah I was aware of that. Still no dice for whatever reason with this new beta or the current stable release for this unit. I would like to test it on mine, but there is no way im changing it without having a backup copy of my current firmware.
Cant say I have seen any issues with permissions, but I leave updates off. If it works there is no reason to change anything, know what I mean.
Seems like we should have a repository of at least the last few releases in the event these things happen, no?
@jpirotte Thanks! I guess will give it a shot, can’t make it worse. Makes a world of difference for me as all my media is MKV, but my client had a mix. Both using Roku 4/Ultra players, of course the H.264 stuff is fine for the most part, but everything else is fairly hard (almost unusable) on the server without the HW transcoder.
So I had posted this question in another thread as well, and I though I would post the result here just to be thorough…
You can pull the old version if you know the whole version hash. For example, 1.11.1.4768 full version is 1.11.1.4768-338ac2b75. If you have another box that has the version you want you can pull it from the preferences file or in the logs when the plex service starts.
So you can create the URL to download by replacing the current version with the past version in the URL.
