How can i share friend's server with my local home users?

create separate plex accounts for your other 4 local users, they do not need plex pass.

invite those users to YOUR home.

ask your FRIEND, to invite those users to their server.

I guess I am asking for something that the community does not agree would be a good option. I was asking for more control of how the current shares are used, and I guess if some users were to misuse the home feature it could make this shared content infinitely more complicated.
Having come from the free version of plex so recently I am not used to having the option for multiple users, as in that scenario all users on a given device utilize the same account.
After the upgrade I now see that users seem to be the same as friends, they just have the option to quickly switch between users in the same home instead of being like seperate profiles on the same account.

I understand what you are asking. What we are saying is that you would be taking away control from the person who actually owns/admins that server.

The watch states and such are saved on the server where things are played from not to the account.

The main benefits of a home IMO are

  1. being able to switch accounts on a home community devices like the living room TV
  2. Home user get to use the mobile apps without buying them
  3. random people cannot share with your managed users. Meaning your child with a managed account could not go to reddit and ask random people to share with them because only you can share with them.
  4. in a way you control which devices your child managed user can use since they cannot log into a new device without your knowledge. (they can’t give credentials to their friends)

unless of course, you give YOUR credentials to your users.

then they simply log in as you.

obviously not a good idea, but no doubt it happens all the time.

I think you are still missing half of my suggestion. I asked that the feature be added with a checkbox for the original user who shared it to be able to choose if you could utilize their share in your home. This would not take away that control from the user who owns the server.
If that option were made available the users who do not want to share their content with other people in that same household would then be able to make that clear rather than assuming that only the specific person they know and not the other people using their devices would be accessing their content.

And i am fine with that as I stated above

If you made a feature request and made sure to put that bit in it I personally would be fine with it. (I am not the decider of what features are implemented)

My other point was that re-sharing others server content with your Home users, and more easily managing watch states when multiple people are viewing at the same time, are two separate things.

the problem is, only YOUR account knows about the managed users.

your friend’s account, doesn’t know about any managed users.

that is why you need to create separate plex accounts, they can still be part of YOUR home, and invited as regular shares to your friends server.

Correct.

Managed users only exist on my local plex media server. That means they can only utilize my main account when connecting via plex.tv etc. As they are managed users only available locally… that would imply all remote connections would be done by my account.

Following that logic. One would assume that a a managed user could be granted access to remote servers and control that content like all other local resources. Should actually be really easy.

The remote shared server would only see the main account connecting…

This is a software control issue.

The multiple account work around will work but defeats completely the existence of managed accounts. Short version they are not related but achieve a goal.

They aren’t local to the server, not sure why folks think that. Managed accounts are at plex.tv as well just like yours. They just don’t have passwords or emails and only the Home admin can share with them.

Fabulous. I would like to share my Friends Server libraries.

As far as I’m aware you can’t nor hopefully, should we ever be able to.
