my friend has shared a library with me. i was wondering if this library would just show in my list? it has been a few hours and i have yet to receive the email to accept the invite. but i would like to know if his library would just be added to mine. also for media that require transcoding like avi files would the transcoding be done on my machine or his? i have a pretty slow processor when it come to avi transcodes so i was hoping it would be done on his. thanks.
There are two ways to accept the invite; One is through the email sent, and the second is via the website.
See: https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201161077-Accept-an-Invitation
And to your question about transcoding, it would take place on your friends server before it is streamed to you
I don’t have any friends (sad, isn’t it?), but you and your friend may glean some useful information here:

thank you for the reply. i am sending some pics of what is going on. we have remote access available on both pc. but we are unable to see each others shared content.
friend pc:
this pic shows the libraries i share with him. was this done right and were the invites accepted? as we never received emails about invites.
this is his home page with only his content listed. he does not even see what i shared with him.
this pic shows me as unavailable to him but we are both online.
my pc pic.
this pic show friend as available to me:
his shared library shows as a entry in my homepage but there is no content in the folder.
@doormandoorman you are not a Plex Passer… is your friend?

This should have no influence at all. Principal sharing works without plexpass
@doormandoorman: if you did not get the sharing email, go to the plex.tv website and accept the sharing offer there. Without doing this, you won’t see you buddy’s server.
when you say web site should i hit the launch button to get into my server?
i tried this but i did not see any invites.

I mean this: https://plex.tv/users/edit
no invites there either. but this pic shows my friends shared library in my friends list under settings. so would this mean that the invite has been accepted some how?
is my friends media supposed to show up in my home screen on the left with my media?
This screen shot looks promising.
Return to the main page of Plex Web.
On the left side, just below the ‘House’ icon you should see the ‘friendly name’ of your own Plex server.
Click on it.
The dropdown menu should show the ‘friendly name’ your friend’s server.
Click on the name of your friend’s server.
et voilà!
you the man! it’s working. thanks.

I learn something new every day…
I have ‘friends’ just sign their app in to my account and they have the entire thing, but this could be… different…

If they sign their app into your account, then they are you. For Plex atleast. You should see their watching progress mess up yours (and vice versa).
Unless I misunderstood you. :-?
No, you understand and Yes, it does.
But trust me… I know my ‘friends’ all too well and getting them to do that was very much like eating the Rock of Gibraltar with a plastic spork. If they ever do connect and watch something on my server, this way I’ll at least know they’ve been there…
We do share however and here’s how: I have a 32G flash drive that has traveled back and forth via the US-Mail and racked up enough miles to have gone from Earth to the Moon and back. I have to leave everything packed up exactly like it should be when it hits the server - then it usually takes a phone call before it can make it to their server.
They record via WMC and the stuff goes to the server like this:
WMC (yea, they can get those programmed)>MCEBuddy>Plex Server = all done completely hands off… and yes… I set that up too.

How does it work, i cannot see the friends server, whilest Plex tells me hè shares 4 library’s. There is no server next to home button, only my servers.
