I saw a thread about a similar question a long while ago but can’t find it now. The problem is that I have an HDHR Connect and an HDHR Extend (2 tuners each, 4 total) and my Extend can get ABC but my Connect cannot, otherwise they get the same stations. I would like to force a recording of an ABC program to be on the Extend tuners but have been unsuccessful so far.
PMS 1.11.1.4768 (FreeBSD)
HDHR Connect (top of the two devices in Plex Web App 3.35.2)
HDHR Extend (bottom of the two devices in Plex Web App 3.35.2)
Assume no more than 2 tuners in use at any time (to make this much simpler). This is not always true, but almost always.
I have tried deleting the ABC channels from the Connect in the DVR setup but the recording still assigns to the Connect. Then when time to record, it seems to proceed but it doesn’t open the tuner, doesn’t create a .grab folder yet it shows progress in the Recording Schedule page of PWA. I can’t understand not giving a “failure” notice and leading me to believe all is well. This is absolutely horrible!!!
So I tried to delete the Connect then add it back in, hoping it would be the bottom of the two devices in PWA. Since I said usually only 2 tuners in use, it would handle most cases. No dice. It is still the top of the two devices. Maybe because “Connect” comes before “Extend” alphabetically or maybe because the S/N of the Extend is higher than that of the Connect. Anyone know??? If I can control this, I have a partly usable workaround.
If someone could tell me in simple terms what the tuner selection algorithm currently is, I might be able to work around this while the algorithm is pending improvement . For instance, I suspect that the algorithm is that when a show comes up for record, it (super dumb) looks for the “highest priority” tuner available (where device priority is by order in the list in PWA, tuner priority per device is tuner 1 higher than tuner 2 and first by device then by tuner per device). If this is true, I could always arrange for some BS program to be recorded on my Connect tuner 1 and 2 BEFORE and during the start time of an ABC program.
I would think this is a common requirement. In the general case, someone might have two antennas, one pointed north connected to one tuner (or HDHR) and one pointed south connected to another. It is not asking a lot to hope that the PMS DVR can select a tuner based on an algorithm that includes whether the channel is available on the tuner (which I suspect is available information from each HDHR). I know things get a tiny bit more complicated, for instance it also affects the conflict manager that manages when there is a conflict of not enough (appropriate) tuners to record all shows. That conflict manager is probably very, very simple now if it assumes all tuners handle all channels, so, yeah, I see it gets a bit more complicated but if that is the problem, I will gladly propose a bulletproof conflict manager.
Please help me, and anyone else who’s tuners are not all identical in function.
Please? Please!
