Problem: Multiple Tuners with Different Channels

Hi all,

I have Plex 1.12.1.4885, with the following config:

  • HDHR Extend antenna #1
  • HDHR Quatro antenna #2

In my area (DFW), our ABC station WFAA is in the VHF high band. It is picked up by both of my antennas above, but is picked up best by antenna #2.

I have followed the suggestions in another discussion I found here. It was successful in making sure all channel 8s are not assigned to the HDHR Extend, but are only assigned to the HDHR Quatro.

In one instance (#1) – when I go to record however, Plex is ignoring the fact that channel 8.1 is not listed on the HDHR Extend (have it X’d in the HDHR interface, and is also not listed on that device in Plex) - and Plex is still using that device to do the recording.

In another instance (#2) – after I have removed the HDHR Extend and re-added it, it will then not record on channel 8.1 at all. See attached error log for this where it appears there was a crash (yes, have turned on crash reporting now).

UPDATE: I refreshed about 5 minutes later, and it turns out recording did begin at some point (on the HDHR Extend!), but it didn’t seem to start right away; i.e., the interface showed “RECORDING SCHEDULED” instead of “RECORDING - xx%”.

Is there any way to force Plex to only hit the HDHR Quatro for these channels? Why does Plex seem to be prioritizing the HDHR Extend over the HDHR Quatro? From a testing standpoint, is there any way to stop Plex from automatically refreshing the EPG right after making any tuner changes?

Thanks,

-Matt

Update on this issue – during further testing, I’ve found the following:

  • Plex seems to treat an HDHR Extend as ‘primary’ - even if added after the other tuners
  • when an HDHR extend device is down (i.e., powered off), but the other tuner is available – Plex marks the one as ‘dead’ – but then keeps trying to access it if it is ‘primary’ – and will NOT try the other available tuner(s)
