How do I disable online sources from the search menu?

I have disabled all online media sources already. They no longer appear through the server in the home or library sections. In fact, the topics throughout the forums all seem to reference the following page: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources . And on that page, I have absolutely everything set to disabled.

However, I still see these sources appearing when I use the search bar. How do I disable them there as well?

When I began using Plex, it seemed it existed to organize and display my media only. I would like to essentially turn off all outside content so that I can use it once again exclusively for only content that I specifically and manually add to the environment.

Any help on this is much appreciated.

I don’t see the same issue. How recently did you disable the online media sources? Have you tried clearing the browser cache? You might also stop and re-start the Plex server.

No, this is actually a thing. I have this same problem and I’ve had Plex Movies and TV disabled since it’s inception.

Short Answer: You don’t have any control over the search UI on plex.tv currently, despite your disabled settings. I’m sure they will fix that eventually.

Right, well, here’s the thing… Plex has been and will be moving forward with their efforts to integrate their online services into the Plex ecosystem. These are business goals of theirs and what you are seeing is the culmination of those efforts. Plex.tv use to have a LAUNCH menu button in its side menu, but the Plex.tv website has seemed to have been updated to incorporate search of content directly into the site much more easily. The problem as of right now is that they are launching bits and pieces of the updated UI without coinciding with the rest of the platform, yet. It’s frustrating as those don’t match our very own settings that Server admins have set, even if DISABLED. Disabled works on your server, just not on the Plex.tv site.

I picked something random off the Plex.tv web search. I don’t have Mad in my personal server.

MY Server Settings - Movies & TV are DISABLED

plex.tv is the website, not Plex Web, where you see your server. Go to app.plex.tv (your server) and try the same search there. The settings on your server are irrelevant to the plex.tv website.

I understand the difference, but OP was confused as to why search on the website was not obeying the rules set by app.plex.tv. I’m not confused. I just wish the Plex team didn’t rollout features that will further confuse users. Every Plex user can potentially bump into this same problem if they were to use the Plex website to login. Normally, users would already have access via their apps but the website itself has been updated to reflect Plex online content services.

The OP didn’t say he was on the website. That might explain what they’re seeing.

In which case, the solution is to hit that ā€˜Open Plex’ button at the top right. That will take you to Plex Web, where you can see and manage your server.

Yeah, they probably could make some changes so the plex.tv website is less likely to be confused with the actual Plex app.

I understand why and to me, whether it was LAUNCH or OPEN, doesn’t matter, but to explain this to say other users, I hope it comes across ā€œintuitiveā€.

I think that caching must have been the issue. A simple refresh today took care of the issue. Thanks so much!

To clarify:

  1. I wasn’t on the website. I was on the web app on my server.
  2. It was just a caching issue. Coming back the next day and refreshing the browser was enough to solve it.
