I am running PLEX on Fedora 25 and just purchased a 65" Class JS8500 4K SUHD Smart TV. I have the PC running PLEX connected to the TV via an DVI to HDMI cable through the HDMI port intended for a PC. My intent is to administer the PC using the TV as the display and view PLEX via the app on the TV to take advantage of the 4K upscaling.
Problem: Fedora does not correctly detect the display resolution for the TV (1600x900 16:9) at boot or when I turn the TV off and back on. This results in a missing signal error on the TV. I then have to hook up a monitor to the PC and reset the TV’s display resolution manually to see Fedora on the TV once again. This is very annoying to say the least.
Is there a configuration file option in Fedora somewhere that forces the screen resolution to remain set to a predetermined value rather than sensing the resolution from the TV at boot or when the TV is turned off and back on? There seems to be some sort of miscommunication between the PC and TV about what resolution is required. Fedora 24 thought it was an 85 inch TV and although Fedora 25 reports it as a 65 inch it still incorrectly sets the display resolution. The only way I can see around this (unless someone has a better idea) is to force the resolution in some manner via a configuration file option setting and I’m having some trouble digging that up.
Any ideas?
