How do I get started

HELP!!! I am a complete newbee, so much so that on reading some of the threads I nearly ran for the hills, they sound so complicated and technical. A friend recommended PLEX as a much less costly alternative to my existing satellite TV subscription so I downloaded the App onto my Samsung Smart TV (UE55KU6670UXXU). I bought a Plex Pass and now it’s asking me to download a server, but which server??? I don’t know what I need to download or how to do it!! I know I sound really stupid but I’m nearly 50 and when I should have been keeping up with technology I was raising a family, cleaning a house and working full time.

That is an oversimplification. Plex is only of use if you have your own media files and a computer or NAS device where the Plex server can run on.

Plex can be tested for free. There is no need to pay right away.

You might want to write in and ask for a refund:

Plex isn’t the same as Netflix, it’s a server/client model. You need your own content

Ok so what you’re saying is I need to download the server onto my laptop. Stream content onto the laptop save the content onto a usb and then transfer the usb (or similar) to my TV?

I think this is where I’ve gotten confused.

Possible, but laptops are not ideal for use as a server.

No, that would be impractical.
Plex is a server, which offers media files over a network connection to Plex clients.
If you want to use Plex with your TV, you need to have your tv connected to your router (and thus to your laptop). Whenever you want to play something on your tv, it sends a request for the file over the network to the computer which then delivers it,
Which means the computer must be running whenever you want to watch something.

Ok, I may be back
