How do I launch Plex without launching the video that makes it crash?

v1.50.1 video player has issues on Apple M1 and can’t play one of my videos. It causes Plex to lock up.

Worse, when I force quit and relaunch Plex, the app wants to conveniently begin where I left off… trying to open a video it can’t play, so it immediately locks up. (If I let it keep trying, it just runs my Mac out of application memory.)

So… how do I open Plex without opening the video?

Bonus - is there any way to revert to the v1.41 player? It would save me a ton of grief.

Best,
R

I’m on macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 on an Intel Mac but here’s the folder of Plex stuff I nuke to fix this problem:

Hard Disk > Users > yourUserName > Library > Application Support > Plex

The way I get there is to open a window in the Finder, go to the Go menu in the menu bar, hold down the Option key and select Library. Then navigate down from there.

I just delete the Plex folder and relaunch. It comes up fresh so you’ll have to login again.

Hope this helps,

Chris

Thanks for the tip, but I think that’s overkill.

I just deleted the plex.ini file instead. It cleared all settings so I had to login again, but my library is still intact. At least I didn’t have to edit code in the .ini file to make Plex work as well as it used to.

Bonus for Library access: there’s a toggle at the bottom of the View Options (Cmd-J) pop-up panel. Turn it on and Library will always show as a folder in [user].
