On screen menu of the player doesn't come back up

Server Version#: 1.28.2.6151
Player Version#: 1.52.1.3195-a0c4d5e9

This “player” column disappears after i start a video and it doesn’t comeback up…
in the web version it works fine.

Would you mind sharing a screenshot (e.g. ⌘+⇧+3)?
I’m not sure I understand what you mean by "player" column.

Yeah sure Tom

Removing the app and installing it again didn’t help either

Ok… you’re talking about the “on screen menu” of the player
This seems to be working fine for me… whenever I hover my mouse over the player window, it’ll bring up the menu, allowing me to interact with it.

I’m not sure if there might be an issue because you’re on an old version of macOS.

yeah it doesn’t come back up when hovering the mouse…

Same is happening to me. Plex player for mac app version 1.53.1.3225-c0bc6cc4.
Once I start playing a movie, the menu at top of screen, and play/pause controls at bottom of screen disappear. Without play/pause controls, the only way out of the app is to quit it. Moving mouse around (over the play/pause area or manu area does not make them appear. Those spaces remain black, and clicking in those spaces has no effect.

Seems to happen consistently for me with 1080 and 4k videos.

Is this also on an older version of macOS?

For me, it’s happening on MacOS High Sierra.
Doesn’t seem to be happening on my newer mac (running Monterey).

@cpragman You’re saying that once you have started a video there is no way for you to stop the video?

@Dani_l_Wiepie Are you also seeing the same as @cpragman?

Can you please close the app then go to ~/Library/Application Support/Plex and delete/move the plex.ini file. Once you open the app again you’ll need to sign in again. Please confirm that the issue is still being observed.

Correct after staring a video the only way to stop a video is to close the app!

Deleted the .ini file and the problem is stil the same for me.

deleted plex.ini.
Issue still occurring.

I noticed the plex.ini file has not been recreated (yet) even though I’ve launched and quit the Plex app about 4 times so far.

I also noticed that the play/pause controls are not appearing for lower-quality movies as well (708x462). So maybe my original comment about this only applying to 1080p movies and higher is not correct.

@Dani_l_Wiepie Unless you have some custom inputmaps, downloaded content, or something else, delete the entire Plex directory ~/Library/Application Support/Plex

@cpragman That’s definitely odd. The plex.ini needs to exist so I may be pointing to a different directory. Delete the entire Plex directory as well.

Just curious why you’re still running an older MacOS? Is this due to hardware limitations?

Deleted the whole ~/Library/Application Support/Plex folder. Oddly, it hasn’t been recreated, even though I’ve launched the plex app twice since deleting the folder.

Yes this is an older computer (2011 iMac) and High Sierra (10.13.6) is as high as it can go. It’s my “utility” computer, not my main computer. But I use it for various management tasks, such as making adjustments to my plex library metadata, which I how I found the issue.

removed all and dowloaded the latest version from the site, still the same :frowning:

why the “old” OS? cause its a “old”, mid 2011 mac

Same issue for me (with same old 2010 Mac, but Firefox uptodate)
But i notice that the screen menu has not « disapeared », it is just « invisible » (if you move the cursor of the mouse where the buttons are supposed to be, actualy they are and you can clic on them and it works, the problem is just that you don’t see them…)
Hope it helps and will be fixed soon !

Is anyone from Plex team there ?..

Hello,

Exact same thing here.
I can click on the buttons (thanks for the tip) but I can’t see them.
I tried with a fresh install and no preferences. Plex created new ones, but it didn’t changed anything.

Thanks
L

Hello,

@Atomatth Any news about this ?
I have the same issue on 2 mac (One workstation, on laptop)
Both are using mac OS 10.13.6
It worked perfectly until it didn’t.

Thanks
L.

Thanks for the bump @pancal0 ! Issue definitely seems to be related to older MacOSs. Looking through this thread we can say it’s at least High Sierra (10.13.x). I’ve bumped this issue internally.

That’s great news.
Thanks @Atomatth
