I've just started tinkering with channel development, I have something particular in mind.
I have a rtmp:// link that I can play directly in VLC, it doesn't require any other parameters as near as I can tell (no swf, etc). But I'm unable to figure out how to have it play in the python code.
If I don't want anything fancy, just for the stream to start playing whenever the channel itself is clicked, how do I accomplish that? The few examples I can find online all seem to be obsolete with the latest PMS.
Is it bad form to have a stream play as soon as the channel icon is selected? There are no subchannels or anything like that which might warrant a more complicated menu?
If the RTMP stream is live, you’re out of luck. PHT is the only client that can handle RTMP streams natively and in my experience it doesn’t do well with live streams. All other Plex apps (including the web app) require PMS to transcode the RTMP stream. Since PMS doesn’t transcode live streams, we hit a roadblock.
The swf_url argument can be ignored if your stream doesn’t require it. The clip argument may or may not be necessary. You may need to separate the stream URL into the base and clip portions for it to work properly.
Channels are intended to have a main menu. I don’t believe it’s possible to skip it entirely. Even if there’s only one menu item, you’ll need to have a main menu.
