I’m lost trying to find this answer anywhere or an actual place to place the request.
Is there a way to share my home set up Plex so that my parents can view my setup folders at their home at a different address from my own.
Di i need to do anything special, buy stuff, special settings etc.
As you progress you’ll know what you need help with.
No, you don’t ‘need’ a Plex Pass to share your libraries with your Parents.
You need Remote Access Operational and your Parents Need a Plex.tv account.
From there, it’s a piece of cake.
Note:
If your Parents will be watching together they’ll probably only need the one account. If they live on different Continents, they should probably have one each.
so i can just buy a plex pass at my parents home and set it up there.
PS can you also explain how the live tv works? can i set it up on a smart tv or a dreamlink type box with plex on it. or do i need to buy something like an aerial/antenna?
Your parents don’t need Plex Pass.
A Plex.tv account is free.
You will need a Plex Pass for TV/DVR (eventually), and yes you’ll need antennae/tuner. You need an operational Antenna and a networked tuner, or Internal PCI Tuner card. Plex will then interact accordingly with the tuner (if Plex supports your brand) - that’s the plan.
I’m a Live TV Novice, but your Parents may not be able to get Your Live TV at their house. I expect to be corrected soon if otherwise. They can get your TV Recordings and anything else you choose to share with them.
You won’t be able to do it without your ISP’s involvement.
I have a nightmare on my desk ATM - they stopped charging for my Hitron, but it must remain in service until my own modem (NOT a Hitron) arrives.
I had to have the ISP put it in Bridge Mode to my own Router - and disable it’s ‘Gateway’ 'cause that right there is a show stopper.
If you’re trying to use Modem/Router/WiFi/The Works with that Hitron and it belongs to your ISP… good luck with that. I wouldn’t want to do it and my ISP guys are local, friendly, and willing to do almost anything for ya.
