Can someone help me set up transcoding to ram on plex MS on Synology? I have a ds1618+ and I can find lots of guides for other platforms but nothing on synology.

If you have enough RAM installed, you only need to specify the transcoder temp directory as /dev/shm.
Be advised, 16 GB is probably going to be required which also is the physical RAM limit on most of the Synology systems.
You can do it in 8GB provided the Syno isn’t being used for other applications. (memory contention & swapping to disk which would negate any gains from using RAM)

Yes – until you get into the race condition where PMS has used the RAM and another app wants it. At that point Linux will start swapping. Performance will tank in a proverbial hearbeat
Don’t think you will see any noticeable improvement. Unfortunately your Atom C3538 does not support any hardware accelerated video-processing so that is already a major setback.
