I download subtitles from the Internet.
When I watch the movie on my PC, everything is normal. There is no black background for the subtitles on my PC. When I came to IOS to continue watching, the subtitles appeared on a black background.
In fact, not all films are like this, but most films have this problem. This problem greatly affects the mood of watching the film. No one likes the black background below.
Ask for help, please help me.
You probably only see this where you’re using text based subtitles. Image based subtitles tend to be colored so you can recognize the text even if the subtitle color is the same as the video color behind it (e.g. using shadows, framing the letters…).
Considering there’s limitations to how many platforms display the fonts (or what formatting they support), text based subtitles instead tend to use a semi-transparent background.
Imagine Chris Hemsworth was wearing a white shirt… without the highlight/frame for the subtitle, you could only see Go. <- -> Run! (with a lot of space where you now see “Now.”).
I think you can fix it on the player settings of your ios
Question:
Are there two subtitle streams?
Is one of them Closed Captions - and is that auto-selected instead of your srt subs?
It correctly selected my text subtitle, but in some films, the subtitle background is black, I wanted to turn it off, but it never succeeded.
Bummer.
Ha ha ha, I understand. I just want it to add a switch that allows the user to show whether the background is displayed or not. The screen of the mobile phone is very small, and the black square will destroy the whole picture. Also, I hope Thor never wears a white shirt.
Some films have no black background, such as “Wonder Woman”. I think it must be the problem of subtitle text that causes the difference. But most films have a black background.
I use plex of ios. I try three different subtitle display modes in “Settings” and “advanced”. The black area still exists. I gave up saving…
Roku has the same thing. If i remember it correctly, you have to set background opacity to 0. Ive never used IOS though.
I admit that this fat guy is very handsome in whatever clothes he wears. He is my idol! Even if his white shirt obscures the subtitles, I won’t have any complaints. It’s simple, because he’s Thor!

Thank you very much for your help. I’m trying something, hoping it can be solved…

Only the ?Chinese? lines have the backdrop. Are those burned in?
