OK, I am totally lost. I love using PLEX, but this website is almost unusable because of the tons of topics. So, out of desperation, I am posting here hoping that someone can answer my question or direct me to the correct category on the site. It is pretty simple, how do you install an update. I recently got a notification that there is a new update for my Drobo NAS. The downloaded file is plex.tgz. I unzipped the file, but I can find no where to go from there. Which file starts the update? There are no *.exe files that I can find. No sensibly labeled file such as INSTALL! No nothing. Can anyone help? Thanks, Jerry Michels
I’m not sure to be honest. I agree it is quite confusing. One time I got a notification that PLEX server had an update. Tried to update through the browser, and it would not update. I then discovered that they were LInux files. So the update was actually for my Seedbox, and not my desktop. No indication what it was for. I didn’t even need it because my seedbox already had it ready for me. Yeah… Very confusing. Maybe it’s best to wait for a PLEX moderator, or shoot them a contact message. A NAS update should have executables.
By the way, do you have Synology? I found a YouTube Link on how to install it. Maybe it’s similar.
Thanks! If nothing else, it is a bit comforting to know others have the same problems.
BELIEVE ME, you’re not alone… We all share the same woes… LOL
My NAS is a Drobo.
Yeah, I was hoping if you also had that other one, maybe installation would be similar. Damn, I’ve been a computer head since the freakin’ 90s, computers are supposed to get easier! not nerve racking… LOLOL Oh boy… I guess this is what happens when we get too many options.
I agree. With computers I predate you by two decades. I even punched data cards for a Fortran computer, and drooled over Radio Shack TRS-80s! I think PLEX could do a lot better with their website. It is a disaster.
I am in the same boat as the rest of you, however, I think we need to transfer (FTP) the downloaded plex.tgz file to the drobo box itself by specifying its IP address then if we had a Linux prompt (like a DOS prompt) we could run it directly on the Drobo. By the way, I assume Drobo’s operating system under the covers is Linux but I do not know for sure. I wish Plex or Drobo would provide an easier way to do this for folks that are not Linux literate.

chrisallen,
Two questions in the guide.
-
By Windows Explorer, does it mean File Explorer?
-
Where is \Drobo-5N\DroboApps typically located? I have an 810N
Thanks,
