How do I update Plex on my WD MyCloud?

So I downloaded the bin file, stopped and uninstalled the old plex app… I get stuck on ‘Updating…’. Does this take a really long time? I gave it about 10 minutes… seems unusually long. Also update the firmware on the WD my cloud Ex2…

I had the same question and did what was suggested above.
I turned off Plex.
Then did a manual update as if installing a new app. Took about 2 minutes,
Restarted the server.
Logged back into Plex and it couldn’t find the server.

I didn’t panic. Looked at the server and the lights indicated that it was still doing something so I waited.
Couple minutes later it connected to the server, the update notice was gone, green check mark says “Up to date”, and all is well again.

Thanks for the help.

ok here is how a new WD NAS user and New Plex user got it to work tonight. Sorry if this was answered already.

go to the local wdmycloudex4100 login and open apps. stop the plex app after clicking on the plex dashboard to manually install (once there click WD at the top right and scroll down to ex41000) click it and it dowwnload a .bin your windows download folder under users. now go back to your wdmycloudex4100 and log back in if necessary. go to apps and with the plex app slider to off for “run app” click manually install app at the bottom right. Its the plus sign. Then the manually install is on the bottom right. Once you click that it opens the download page. Scoll to the bottom and you will see the .bin for the ex4100. click it and let it install. you may get a message briefly its already installed, but it goes away in a second or two. Then it finishes and bam new version is there. start the app and click configure and then click top right button and users, then server and you will see ver. 9.12.19 which is latest as of 2237MST 12.3.2015. Hope this helps. Let me know

I am still having issues with this on a EX4, keeps wanting to put back the old version and the new version I can get on it, but it will not load. I see the new update in Dec… still not working.

I have the same Problem! The Version 0.9.12.19 1537 works fine. When I install the new one the server works for 1 min. or he isn’t available.

AlexK. – I am just as stuck as you. I cannot believe that WD are not rushing to resolve this problem promtly?! We have spent good-earned money on a premium product - bring on a quick resolution, right??

I have that issue since December and still no solution

I’m also getting the Error “Failed to install app. Please check the network connection and try again.” when trying to install the update for the Media Server on a My Cloud EX2 Ultra. I went to Plex Downloads and manually selected the My Cloud EX2 version to download to my local computer. I then transferred the downloaded file to the Public share on the My Cloud EX2. From the Dashboard/Apps, I stopped the Plex Media Server and then selected the option to install the app manually. I then Choose the update in the Public share. I receive a popup that it’s Updating and after a few minutes I get the above error message. I have the timeout set for 15 min on the web interface, so I know it isn’t timing out the session.

I see others have posted about this same issue, but no one has posted a solution yet. I thought I’d give as much detail as I could in the hope someone will be able to post a solution.****

I have the same problem. I have the EX2 Ultra and when trying to manually install the EX2 download from Plex and get the same failure. Does the EX2 version support the EX2 Ultra?

There are now multiple threads describing this issue (Failed to install app. Please check the network connection and try again), with no apparent resolution. Has anyone got this to work?

Same issue here with the EX2 Ultra. Not able to update the app manually.

Error - failed to install the app. Please check the network connection and try again.

Same issue with the ‘WDMyCloudEX4100_plexmediaserver_1032461-35f0caa’ update released in July and get the same error - can’t update my EX4. Any ideas if a fix is going to be released for this?

Hi All

@tommmio : EX2 Ultra is not EX2, therefore please install Plex from within the App Center of your EX2 Ultra. If an update is available for the EX2 Ultra, then you will see a notification in a header line of the Plex UI. Unfortunately Plex Updates are not yet listed in the downloads of Plex.tv/downloads to intsall Plex manually.

@FROSTYLXXII and @stewarttosh
EX4 is not supported anymore because there is no actual linux kernel update available anymore for the Kirkwood chipset of EX4. Therefore EX4 is out of support at the Linux, unfortunately.

EX4100 is, more or less, the grand-grandson of EX4, so the Plex packages are totally different to the old one for EX4. The SoC System-on-Chip of EX4100 is Marvel ARMADA 388 chipset. The operating system of the My Cloud devices check the software compatibility of packages, that’s why the package is rejected. It would not work anyway.

I had this problem on my EX2ultra, too. On suggestion from @plex on twitter I tried the version for “Mirror Gen 2” and it has successfully installed.

Thanks waynemcl! Your suggestion worked for me as well on my EX2 Ultra.

How do I download the .bin update? I have WD MyCloud Mirror…and under downloads at plex.tv it has the complete latest version (.exe), not .bin so when I try to install on WD I get an error that installation failed.

i has the same problema with my Ulra EX2…i did it:
1- disabled plex app from dashboard
2- upgrade manualy
3- Works!

i hope help us
