Latest Plex App binary file for WD my Cloud Ex2100

Server Version#: WD My Cloud Ex2100 with FW 2.31.149
Player Version#: 114

Hello there,
Is there any issue on binary app (1.14.1.5488).
https://downloads.plex.tv/plex-media-server/1.14.1.5488-cc260c476/WDMyCloudEX2100_plexmediaserver_11415488-cc260c476.bin

1- I have tried to update it from 1.17 version(the App which WD My Cloud install it automatically) it gives the update failed error.

2- I removed the old one based on the KBA
http://agent.wdc.com/knowledgebase/answer.aspx?ID=15072&s=
then install the file manually and gave same error.

3- I have done Quick restore and try both 1 and 2 still have same issue.

However I dont have any issue with My Cloud PR4100, EX2 Ultra, DL200 using same plex version

There isn’t a 1.17 version of PMS. Please double check what you are removing. Also, are you just uninstalling the app? Have you tried removing all of Plex?

Sorry for typo. The exact model is 1723878

and I wanted to try to update it to 11415488.

I have ssh in to the unit and I removed everything .

Have you checked the checksum on the file you downloaded to make sure the file is good?

Yes, I did . It is 94584KB . Tried to download it couple of times with from different computer

Then I don’t know why it doesn’t install. I don’t have an EX2100 but haven’t seen any other reports of this not working. I’ll ask around.

Hi MovieFan,

I as well as several others are also having this same problem. I have found at least 4 separate postings regarding this issue for the WD EX2100 and WD EX2 NAS devices and all report they receive the same message when attempting to load the latest update 1.14.1.5488…

“Error … Failed to install app.”

I have been using PMS on my EX2100 for over a year and this is the first time I have ever had a failure to install a PMS update, so that leads me to believe there is an issue with the .bin file for these units.

If you can look into it and get back to us it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

Joe

OUCH!! there is a problem with the latest version of Plex for download on the EX platform.
Plex Pass member and I have never had a problem with the Plex versions download and update on My PR2100 and EX4100.
The PR2100 updated successfully but my EX4100 fails with “Error…Failed to install app”

Version 1.14.1.5488

The version of Plex from the WD App Store installs just fine
Just cannot update to Plex 1.14 version on the EX4100

Hmm. That’s the opposite of what was reported above.

Opposite of what above?

Jeepnsam stated his PR2100 updated successfully, which is the Professional Series WD NAS. The above posts are about the EX2100, which is the Expert Series.

Of all the posts I’ve read (and there are many), it appears the PR Series update to 1.14.1.5488 just fine.

It’s the EX Series that are having the issue with the message “Error - Failed to install app.”

Of the posts I’ve read this includes the following units:

EX2
EX2100
EX4100

We do appreciate your assistance trying to resolve this.

My apologies. Getting the model number mixed up. From what I have seen, only the EX2100 is showing issues. I confirmed with another person from Plex that they were able to install properly on the EX4100. The OP above also mentions it working on the EX4100. Can you provide me the full name of the file you are trying to install?

Yep, and looks like ya got the models mixed up again! lol

The OP of this post said,

“However I dont have any issue with My Cloud PR4100, EX2 Ultra, DL200 using same plex version.” In that post, he said he was able to load 1.14.1.5488 on his EX2 Ultra, however that’s the only post I’ve read that was succussful on any EX Series.

Anyway, the file I downloaded from Plex is named:

WDMyCloudEX2100_plexmediaserver_11415488-cc260c476.bin

Hope that helps in some way!

Darn WD and their strange model numbers.

I’ll get back to all of you once I find out more.

Thanks, MovieFan, we appreciate the assistance.

My friend has the exact same problem trying to Update his WD MyCloud EX2100 to the latest version.

He has downloaded the update file multiple times, but it still doesn’t work.

Also he contacted WD Support, but they were not able to resolve the problem and finally came to the conclusion that it is a problem with the update file and told him to contact Plex.

He contacted Plex through the e-mail support and still has not received a reply.

This exact issue is also occurring with my EX2100.

Would it be possible to get the last version available to load while waiting for a fix?

Hey MovieFan,

Have you been able to find out anything on this issue?

If you are not the WD NAS expert, do you know the Plex employee who is? I am willing to email him/her directly to try to get this issue resolved. No offense intended, but we haven’t heard anything in 6 days.

As always, appreciate your assistance! Thanks!

I don’t have any news yet. Does the failed update cause the previous version to no longer work?

What happens is if the Devices that you are using to connect to your Plex Media Server like a Roku, Fire Stick, Samsung Smart TV etc… have automatically updated the Plex Client, you can no longer connect to your Plex Media Server because it says it needs a Server Version Greater than 1.10…, so without being able to Update the Plex Media Server to 1.14… you are screwed.

MovieFan,

My EX2100 is updated through 1.14.1.5487, as are my devices… Roku, nVidia Shield, etc.

I also have a small Linux Server running 1.14.1.5487. All of my devices are working at the moment.

I have “auto-updates” turned OFF on all my devices, so when my EX2100 (my primary Plex server) would not load the 1.14.1.5488 update, I did not attempt to update any of the other devices, as I didn’t want to run into the kinds of problems such as Sysclops1961 described above.

What bothers me, 1.14.1.5488 was released both “to beta” and “to everyone” on Dec. 18… over a month now, and this still has not been resolved. As a Plex Pass member for over a year now, this is very disappointing… I have never had any issue loading an update until now…
