How do I use Plex for podcasts? Both through the desktop webui and the mobile app

I’ve gotten a pretty decent media server going over the past couple months, and just realized that I could use Plex for podcasts as well. It’ll be hard to beat Podcast Addict’s features, but it would be nice to be able to sync my listen progress across devices so I can start listening on my phone and continue from my computer.

Only thing is, through the webui I think I’ve got the hang of adding new podcasts, and they show up under “My Podcasts”. None of them show up on the mobile app though. Instead, when I go to the “My Podcasts” tab I see “No items to display”. And if I go to “Add a podcast”, I need to type in a podcast URL to add it.

It’d be nice if I could browse through podcasts and add them on the mobile app like I can in the webui - but at the very least, I’d think podcasts I add with the webui should show up in the mobile app. Am I doing something wrong?

Your lists of podcasts should be the same in both web and Android. Please double check and make sure you are using the same Plex account on both devices. This info is tied directly to your Plex account.

You can. Pick the category tab at the bottom, then browse around. “Add to My Podcast” is the “Subscribe” button.

Hmm that’s strange…I am signed into the same Plex account - everything else, like my TV show and movie progress, matches up between both devices. For some reason it’s just the podcast feed on the Android app that comes up blank. All 3 tabs (Recommended, My Podcasts, and Categories) just say “No items to display”. Any idea what might be stopping the podcasts from getting to my mobile app?

Are you trying to access podcasts from the sidebar? Have you tried from “more”? If more works, it could somehow have pinned something wrong onto the sidebar. Unpiin and repin from more.

Yup from the sidebar. Good suggestion - I tried going to “More” and opening Podcasts from there, and also unpinning and repinning, but always the same result.

The Podcasts option shows up under “Plex” rather than my server though - is that correct? Or do I need to set something up on my server so it shows up there?

That’s correct. Podcasts are not coming from your server, they come from Plex directly.

Not sure why you can’t access it. Can you try again and then get me the log from the Android app? Android, Android TV, Fire TV Logs | Plex Support

Your logs are showing your app having trouble contacting Plex.tv to get the podcast data. It’s actually failing to get any of the content from Plex.tv. I’m not sure what’s going on.

Hmmm that’s interesting, but that would explain it. I’ll hunt around to see if anything on my phone might be preventing it from reaching Plex.tv.

Edit: It’s over a month later, but just came back to say that I uninstalled and reinstalled the Plex app on my phone, and it started working.
