Ive git Recommemded set as default, but this stupid thing always opens HOME first. I don’t care about Hone - I’ve got that purposefully empty as I DON’T CARE. I just want my libraries (recommended or browse).
Arg! This new GUI is beyond horrible. GO BACK A VERSION, fire the AH who came up with this travesty, and other LEAVE IT ALONE or start from scratch (using USER ease of use and comfort as guidelines).
I know (I’ve been using the Plex client for almost 10 years). I’m not sure why (except that I’m older (than dirt), and maybe just really pissed about the new GUI), but for some reason this version is more “obviously” not where I want to be than the previous version.
Previous version; Left arrow, Down arrow to the desired library, and viola! Last selected view (Browse or Recommended) there. Changing that, or adding a filter, is a simple from there.
New version; Up arrow, Right Arrow, Down Arrow, Left Arrow twice, then select Browse or Recommended. This is assuming after step 2, you’re either on the wrong Library or you want to switch from Browse to Recommended, or back).
If they’re already allowing allowing for a default Library location (Browse or Library), they should also allow for a default starting “page” - library, Home, etc.
I am older, and even more unhappy when something that works perfectly well is changed for no reason (from what I can tell, there are NO service “upgrades” associated with the new GUI). I’ve become the curmudgeon I scoffed at 5 or 10 years ago.
Think you need to add some clicks down to get to desired library in left menu.
…then you had to click right, click up to get to View tabs, then more clicks to select the view you wanted.
Up Arrow, Right Arrow, Down Arrow,…why two lefts arrows, selecting a third position library? (Down arrow takes you to first, then two left clicks gets you to third library). If so, then add those to your clicks for the previous version too because you had to go down the list of libraries…
Old UI: Assuming your desired library is your third library, I’m counting about 6 clicks to get to the Views tab in old UI. Maybe 7, if you had to click “OK” on the library in main left menu, which I believe was the case. Someone on a non-Roku streaming device can confirm.
New UI: 7 clicks to get to views on left menu (again assuming desired library is in third position).
It does feel like more clicks, but every time I count it, it’s about the same. I’m starting to believe it is just the retraining of the brain that is throwing us off (up and down vs. left and right).
And yes, I do wish there was a “Remember Last Library View” option (which we had previously) instead of the new “Browse or Recommended” option or maybe both.
My “click map” was the basics/overview. The number of down clicks (old) would depend on the number, and order, of your libraries. Navigating through the library (browse or other) is unavoidable. If only it could read my mind I just think Babacek at it, and poof! The next Babacek episode starts!
My “basic click” could for the old method is correct, weell, for my library setup. I have a smart remote (Harmony One), and those clicks were automated.
But, it doesn’t really matter. It is what it is, especially as there’s no way to “stop” GUI updates (for any software, any longer). I guess I’m an oldder fudduddier giezer than I’d thought I’d be at this stage. I hate change, especially when the change is for change sake only, rather than an improvement.
Thanks for everyone’s help - and putting up with my rant.
