New user default to library view

This has been driving me crazy. When I add a new user, how do I let them have the library view by default rather than the recommended view? I want them to view my movies in alphabetical order as soon as they click on movies. I do not want them to see the recommended option first. Recommended by who exactly?

They have to set it in the Plex app. You cannot set it for them.

Plex mobile: Settings → Experience → Default Library view = Browse
Plex Web: Settings → Plex Web → General → enable Remember Selected Tab.

It will be similar for other platforms - smart tv, android tv, apple tv, etc.

I would interested on answer to Recommended

Cheers

You clearly have not understood the question. But thank you for the reply.

Thanks for providing that information. It would be a nice feature to let new users view the library first by default rather than recommendations. Other platforms may work that way, and I’m aware of how to change it. But I think it would be nice to break that mold and have the ability to set viewing the library by default on first view. But thanks for taking the time to reply.

I sympathize with you here, but I guess the only replies you may get to your post are:

  • “No, you cannot change the default for new accounts.”
  • “The user can they themselves change it going forward, to remember the last tab they used.”
  • and lastly “You can minimize the ‘harm’ of the recommendations tab by removing all recommendations, forcing the user to change over to the library.”

I personally hated the recommendations tab at first, but use quite often now as a “review and continue” tab for my in-progress media. I place “Recently added” at the top so I can see the new files I dropped in without having to hunt for them later. I keep the “recently watched” so I can quickly recall the movies I have seen lately, and use that as a shortcut to find sequels (Jurassic World) to a movie I watched the previous night. And I do leave up a few “Top Movies in ____” categories in case I feel like getting a random selection, though I can’t recall ever having used it.

I don’t believe that the “remember last tab” thing works anymore with the latest Roku player updated version - it seems to have been replaced with a setting that lets you choose to set the default view to either “recommended” or “browse”, but this setting applies for all libraries so it can’t be set differently for different libraries. At least, that’s how it was working the last time I used it, unless they’ve changed it again since then.

I do not know. I am privileged enough to not have a Roku TV/player, so I have no experience with them.

Yes, I’ve done the same with movies, I’ve moved them to the top so the recently added is visible when Plex starts just below continue watching. Thanks for the feedback. I’ll just have to keep telling new users to click on the library link at the top when they first open movies. It’s only a few family members and a couple of friends. So not a huge deal, but I thought I’d ask. Thanks for replying.
