How do you get local media asset scanner to pick up for tv shows?

How do you go about getting the LMA agent to use the embedded titles in an avi file rather than the generic episode1, episode 2, etc.

This is for a fitness tv show collection that’s structured like so:

Fitness
WorkoutSeries
Workout1
Workoutseries.S01E01.Legs
Workoutseries.S01E02.Arms

etc

If I use windows explorer, I see that the title is set to “Legs”

Everything is sorting correctly, but I don’t see Legs appear in the title. Only Episode 1

I am doing this via tv shows, because I want to keep track on each Workout and be able to mark them as complete and move onto the next one.

My agent set for this tv show is Plex Media, and Local media asset is enabled and set as the primary scraper. Am I missing something?

I am pretty sure that Plex does not support LMA for avi files at all.

If you convert them into mp4 and preserve the fields then Plex will pick them up correctly, I think.

AVI is pretty much deservedly a dead format anyway.

Thanks. I’ll give that a try

To add more to @Elijah_Baley statement.
MP4 files are the only video files PLEX will look for embedded metadata.

however, you can mux the files to MP4 cause it’s only a container so you can “trick” PLEX that way. It may not be advisable to do so but you can nonetheless…

I have a recollection that the MKV container also can have its LMS fields read by Plex.

But that recollection seems to be from a few years ago and as such is somewhat suspect at my age.

They say as you get older memory is the first thing to go. I forget what is the second.

I’ve converted a few of the files into mp4, verified the title field with mp3tag, and even created a new tv show library with the Personal Media Shows agent. Made sure LMA is enabled and still no luck.

spoke too soon. Looks like they pulled in eventually. I’m just getting the filename and not the actual title, but that will do. Thanks guys. Looks like I have a bunch of conversions ahead of me.

Guess I should of been more specific, track information is read such as language and subtitles but PLEX will not read such fields as TITLE and GENRE

I take that back. Yeah, it’s reading the title.
