Local metadata

Sorry for the newbie question: there must be a way to do this, but I’m unclear how.

I have a zillion mkv files named using integers (e.g. “42345.mkv”) that correspond to records in a database. I would like PLEX server to consume my local metadata rather than fetch it over the web. Is there an XML format (which I can dump from my database) that PLEX will recognize and consume to populate PLEX’s metadata about my movies? Is this a file that can live in the same directory as the mkv files, or must the XML be embedded in the mkv files themselves?

thanks for any input,

Bill

One solution is to pull the metadata from your database and embed it into mp4 using sublerCLI and when and put Local Media Assets as the No 1 agent for metadata, see this

Ah... that sounds perfect, except that I'd need it for an mkv container (unless sublerCLI can do that too?)

Bill

You can always convert mp4 to mkv one ex. is MKVools also see this post how inbeed metadata in mp4 with subler
