How do you get Plex to recognize subfolders?

I have all of my movies grouped under a single folder named “Movies”. But, I have various subfolders to organize them by genre or director. As many of you know, Plex does not play well with subfolders. Is there a way to get Plex to ignore the subfolders and just read the filenames of the movies? Also, they’re all named in a format Plex works well with.

Thanks.

Plex works with subfolders quite well as long as you never have just one movie in a folder. If you do it will use the folder name as the movie name instead of the file name. I have hundreds of folders with movies in them. But no movie goes into a folder until there are at least two (I generally have at least three). So “Batman Movies” or “Stanley Kubrick” works fine with all the movies in that folder.

I have the opposite experience. If there is only 1 movie in a folder with subtitles or sidecar files, then Plex will properly tag the movie. If it’s a collection of movies, then Plex will try to name each one after the folder. Meaning, The Shining will get renamed to a Stanley Kubrick documentary because the folder is named “Stanley Kubrick”.
